Quickest Bowkill

I took a nice fat doe on the last day of early bowseason, the thursday before gun season opened. At 24 yards, I couldn't have placed the arrow any better if I was standing next to her... Took out both lungs and all of the plumbing on the top of heart with a Tekan II, and she turned and ran as hard as she could for 40 yards, fell, got up, and fell again, sliding to a stop 30 yards straight downhill. From the time the arrow hit her until the time she was stone dead was maybe 4 seconds. Very impressive. I'm always amazed how quick a well placed arrow will do the job.

Plus it got the confidence back up after missing my 150 two weeks before!

My quickest bowkill was about 15 seconds. Shot this buck in the heart, watched it run about 60yrds, and drop dead. It was awesome!

I've had the 4 second thing quite a few times. When talking to non-bowhunters I've rounded it up to 10 seconds so they'd believe me. Still not sure if they do!!??

My quickest bowkill was also about 4 seconds. I got both lungs including the heart. She ran 30 yds. and dropped.

This years buck got both lungs and the top of the heart. Maybe 8 seconds.

That is awesome! The second buck i took this year expired very quickly as well! Its hard to beat a perfectly placed shot!

Just as a follow-up, here's the buck I missed two weeks before... Guessed him for 34 yards, and he was actually 41. Took off a handful of white hair as the arrow passed exactly where my 40 yard pin was held... Not a good night's sleep that night!

I wish I could have got pictures of him in hard horn, but I have him on trail cam at least a dozen times in velvet!

RE: Quickest Bowkill

i wont doubt my first will most likely be my quickest for a very long time.

honestly didnt make it more than 30yds tops...i bet it was less...but ran from right to left infront of me. 21yd shot...both lungs and everything off the top of the heart...he fell over within shooting distance still...i heard him suck air for a REALLY short time...but he never even kicked a leg or twitched...he ran that short distance, stopped and by the time i could process it mentally, he was down...i watched the arrow sail through him...knew he was down and gone...

there he lays...look for the white belly

heres the entrance...exit is just a inch or 2 or 3 lower..

ive had heart shots with a rifle go farther than he did....awesome watching him topple over and beable to get on the radio to tell my buddy "BUCK down baby!!!" he was grouse hunting up on the top of the mountain...said "thats what i like to hear!!!"

Congratulations, Tim!

I'm with GregH... I've had more than a handful of four-second kills as well; it's always good to see.

I actually had a huge doe under me (well, at like 5 yards) a few years ago that I hit a bit high and forward -- right where you'd aim if you were rifle hunting and wanted to break down the shoulders. Well, I hit her EXACTLY there and she simply collapsed stone dead in her tracks -- just like a rifle kill. Not sure of exactly what I hit in there, but she was dead before she hit the ground. That was WAY cool. :)

I'll tell ya....I think a well placed arrow works just as fast, and is some cases, faster than a rifle. I've had several as well that were 4-6 seconds....Man that's fast...

I've had several drop right where I hit them. The only thing with horns that dropped where I hit him was a six point. He didn't drop right away. He kind of shook his head and then went back to eating. Then he just dropped.

This guy dropped instantly and his brother wouldn't leave him trying to get him to get up. I would have shot him and his mother but I was hunting a golf course and had to be descrete for the members concern.

Congrats on a nice big doe! The BB I shot this year prolly only ran 30-35 yards tops. He fell pretty quick and gave one last kick after about 15 seconds. Took out both lungs and the top of the heart. It's amazing what a well placed shot and a 1-3/4" broadhead will do.

Yup, I think todays broadheads are definately more lethal than a rifle round on identical shots. The doe i shot this year was alive for maybe 8 seconds after i blasted a rage through both lungs, it was incredible.

The Furthest ive ever had one run was 70 yards. and that was mainly cause it was all downhill.

My quickest was last years bow season buck, 15-30 seconds. Ran about 40 yards and dropped.
Had to do it one more time!!!!:D

I had a 2 second one a couple of years ago. Clipped the femeral artery underneath the spine of a deer. He literally took two leaps and on the second leap his legs gave out and he crashed to the ground dead. It was literally two seconds. I couldn't believe it. He only went about 10 yds.

I shot a doe in Ky last year that lasted about 10 seconds. I shot it at 15 yards and it did a round up at the base of my tree and droped dead right under my stand!

Ditto on the 4-6 second kill, had that a few times as well. Had one double lunger that ran about 10yrs, face first into MYtree, then flopped over backwards. Not sure if my arrow killed it first, or the tree! [8D]

I've also had one like Greg/Mo described....dropped dead in her tracks (but I try to avoid that shot..LOL).

My favorite of all though, are the ones that don't even know they've been hit. They look around...wondering "what was that"....and 10-15 seconds later start to wobble. The first time it happened to me...I thought I missed! :D

I had 3 go down in sight, last year (mere seconds), and the other two were probably dead inside 20 seconds.

This year....I've had 4 go down in sight (mere seconds).....and 2 others that were likely dead within 20 seconds (based on the recoveries). Two others were tough recoveries (due to my ineptness) and probably survived a while before expiring.

My very first bow kill was taken with the same results. It was a small buck that only made it about 20 yards while basically falling the entire time. My understanding is when there is a sudden, massive drop in blood pressure it causes an almost instant loss of consciousness. That explains why some deer are only on their feet for a few seconds after a shot that results in quick, massive hemorrhaging.

RE: Quickest Bowkill

All of 3 of my doe kills this year, the deer fell in sight. The last one I shot, the muzzy blew through both shoulders and landed behind her. She made it maybe 35 yards and she was snow plowing the whole time. It still amazes me the damage that a sharp broadhead does to deer. I've shot many deer with a rifle and a bow. I swear, sometimes you cannot honestly tell what weapon the deer have been shot with. Broadheads these days cut such big holes and cause so much damage (ie blood/jelly). If we're getting these kind of kills, we are doing our jobs as bowhunters!

I've had that very same shot happen to me;)I was shooting 80# and it dropped her like a sack of potatoes. I have also had several kills under 10 seconds. The 450# Black Bear I shot in Alberta lived less than 10 seconds, but in myexperience bears die quick. Maybe it's because they are not used to running from things? At any rateI like to watch'em go down:D

Quickest Kill thats a hard one because there has been so many. A doe this year only went about 30 yards and the buck I shot went about 60 yards on a dead run seen him go down. Double lungs and pass through s are the quickest. I had them jump in the air, look at the arrow in the ground and than drop right were I shot them and I had them run 60 to 80 yards on a dead run, but how long dose it take a deer to run a 100 yards. Never timed one but it's not long. I say 80% of the time on a double lung I see them go down. I have shot them in the heart before and they alway go father some time 100 to 150 yards. I will take a double lung shot and a pass through any day. They go down faster

RE: Quickest Bowkill

My kill this year was the same way...except for the fact that I hit him far back, no lungs, no heart...I think I hit the renal artery though and maybe the kidneys...anyways...he ran 35 yds fell got back up ran another 5 and fell again...I didn't even have time to comprehend what just happened....and since it was my first deer ever I was already having a hard time thinking....

I don't think there is anything better than to know you were able to kill your prey efficently and ethically....that should be the goal of every hunter...

In my opinion a bow will kill a deer faster than a gun.

I used to know a guy who uglied them to death. He had to quit it was tearing them up so bad it wasted too much meat!!;)You gotta be awfully ugly to do that though. It's not for pretty boys!:D

Shot one doe this year... quartering away @ 40 yards... I hit her and drove the arrow up into her... she went about 15 yards and tipped over. I have had several others go down w/in 40 yards.

I have zipped four deer this year and not one of them made it 30 yards. It's actually stunning how fast they drop with the right shot.
I like the ones that hardly know they have been fatally injured. They look around for a couple of seconds and fall over.

I have shot deer with everything from Xbow, compounds and trads as well as rifle and shotgun and nothing dies much faster than a good bow hit. I really have no idea why but I have shot deer with a copper solid 12g thru the lungs and they go further than a good double lung arrow. Must be some reason a bow kill so quickly....

Planter, if an animal doesn't die from shock it dies from bleeding. There's not much that'll make'em bleed more/quicker than a razor sharp broadhead.;)
