RE: Quickest Bowkill
All of 3 of my doe kills this year, the deer fell in sight. The last one I shot, the muzzy blew through both shoulders and landed behind her. She made it maybe 35 yards and she was snow plowing the whole time. It still amazes me the damage that a sharp broadhead does to deer. I've shot many deer with a rifle and a bow. I swear, sometimes you cannot honestly tell what weapon the deer have been shot with. Broadheads these days cut such big holes and cause so much damage (ie blood/jelly). If we're getting these kind of kills, we are doing our jobs as bowhunters!

RE: Quickest Bowkill
ORIGINAL: Greg / MO Congratulations, Tim! I'm with GregH... I've had more than a handful of four-second kills as well; it's always good to see. I actually had a huge doe under me (well, at like 5 yards) a few years ago that I hit a bit high and forward -- right where you'd aim if you were rifle hunting and wanted to break down the shoulders. Well, I hit her EXACTLY there and she simply collapsed stone dead in her tracks -- just like a rifle kill. Not sure of exactly what I hit in there, but she was dead before she hit the ground. That was WAY cool. :) Dan |
RE: Quickest Bowkill
Quickest Kill thats a hard one because there has been so many. A doe this year only went about 30 yards and the buck I shot went about 60 yards on a dead run seen him go down. Double lungs and pass through s are the quickest. I had them jump in the air, look at the arrow in the ground and than drop right were I shot them and I had them run 60 to 80 yards on a dead run, but how long dose it take a deer to run a 100 yards. Never timed one but it's not long. I say 80% of the time on a double lung I see them go down. I have shot them in the heart before and they alway go father some time 100 to 150 yards. I will take a double lung shot and a pass through any day. They go down faster

RE: Quickest Bowkill
My kill this year was the same way...except for the fact that I hit him far back, no lungs, no heart...I think I hit the renal artery though and maybe the kidneys...anyways...he ran 35 yds fell got back up ran another 5 and fell again...I didn't even have time to comprehend what just happened....and since it was my first deer ever I was already having a hard time thinking....
I don't think there is anything better than to know you were able to kill your prey efficently and ethically....that should be the goal of every hunter... |
RE: Quickest Bowkill
In my opinion a bow will kill a deer faster than a gun.

RE: Quickest Bowkill
I used to know a guy who uglied them to death. He had to quit it was tearing them up so bad it wasted too much meat!!;)You gotta be awfully ugly to do that though. It's not for pretty boys!:D

RE: Quickest Bowkill
Shot one doe this year... quartering away @ 40 yards... I hit her and drove the arrow up into her... she went about 15 yards and tipped over. I have had several others go down w/in 40 yards.

RE: Quickest Bowkill
I have zipped four deer this year and not one of them made it 30 yards. It's actually stunning how fast they drop with the right shot.
I like the ones that hardly know they have been fatally injured. They look around for a couple of seconds and fall over. I have shot deer with everything from Xbow, compounds and trads as well as rifle and shotgun and nothing dies much faster than a good bow hit. I really have no idea why but I have shot deer with a copper solid 12g thru the lungs and they go further than a good double lung arrow. Must be some reason a bow kill so quickly.... |
RE: Quickest Bowkill
Planter, if an animal doesn't die from shock it dies from bleeding. There's not much that'll make'em bleed more/quicker than a razor sharp broadhead.;)

RE: Quickest Bowkill
I have hit deer in the neck (jugular I imagine) that didnt make it much more than 10 seconds...
