I enjoy hunting/targeting the old bucks that have made it 4 or 5 years or more.

I shot my first "big" buck last year and that set the bar. Now I want something of the same caliber or better.

Any buck with a forked horn on club land or my grandfather's private land. i haven't gotten over the liking of pulling the trigger yet...

Dan, no I dont think he was rutting yet I think he just spilled coffee on them that morning:D They are definetly about the darkest Ive seen. I killed an 8 a few weeks ago that were almost that black but not quite. Just so everyone knows I dont put down anyone for shooting young bucks, does, ect. Whatever gets you excited. I think everyone goes through that stage where a spike or even doe gets you excited. Then the more game you take or when you finally kill a mature deer then your attitude might change a little. I killed plenty and they all got me excited, then I killed a real nice 9 pointer that didnt have a tooth in his head and it changed from there. I'm proud of everything I harvested but taking a big mature whitetail is just a different feeling for me. They're out there just have to work for them. The big thing I've noticed over the last 5 years is that people cant ride a 4 wheeler within a few hundred yards of there stand they wont even bother.

Gotta fill the freezer first, but doe work just fine for that.

i chose 1 & 2... I look for a mature buck, take does to thin the herd and put in the freezer, but i'll take management bucks on our land to keep the quality high... but if its gettin toward the end of the hunt (season or vacation time running out) i get a bit less "picky" and will take something as long as its older than 1.5yrs... absolutely will not take fawns/yearlings, we don't need meat that bad for the fridge and we've got plenty of doe to choose from...

I'm a wishy-washy hunter. What I'll shoot depends on where I'm hunting and when. This year I've passed up several young bucks and babies in favor of big does and a buck at least 2.5 yearsold. Last year when I hunted on an antlerless deer only area I shot a button buck and was pretty happy with him. (tendermeat in a easy to drag package)

Generally, I pass on fawns andsmall bucks. But I'd rather eat venison than a tag. ;)

Mature bucks only (even though there so few around here) and does for meat for about 12 years.
