Speaking of TV shows (2)
So I just got home in time to catch the end of Realtree. There's some blond gal perched in a tree rattling some horns. There are several bucks around. So they parade past, she goes through the "this bow is to heavy for me" drawing routine as she points the thing at the sky and struggles to draw. She finally gets it back and the arrow falls off the rest as she tried to right the bow which she had laid almost on it's side to draw. She goes through some more girations and gets the arrow on the rest. Unknown to her it had then come off the string... so she DRY FIRES the thing. One of the bucks jumps and runs but the biggest one takes a hop into a wide open shooting lane. She reloads. She then goes through the "THIS DAMN BOW IS TO HEAVY FOR ME TO PULL" drawing routine again. As she is about to shoot the arrow falls off again. She lays it on it's side to try and get it back in place. The camera man reaches up(still filming it all) and places the arrow on the rest. She sights and shoots. Hits the buck perfectly<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> right about half way between the ribs and the butt in the middle of the tenderloins. The deer runs off... she says great hunt. Let's go get my deer. I'm saying lots of luck lady.... and that's what'll take cause you didn't hit any vitals by a long shot. So now it's dark and she's stormin through the woods like she's running from the boggie man. She stops, smiles for the camera and says... "There he is ... yahoo". Then she proceeds to tell she missed one earlier in the week. After seeing her "GOOD HIT" I can believe that. Makes me wonder if they weren't using a pod. Absolutely a rotten hit and shot placement with pittiful penetration. Someone needs to show these people how to shoot, how to match equipment to shooter and patience. The things we have to endure just so someone can put a pretty face in front of a camera. This stuff makes me sick.

RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
Davidmil,
I just saw the same show and was shocked<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> I could not believe my eyes, it was a circus act at best. that bow was way to heavy for her, it looked like it was the first time she ever picked a bow up<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>. Pitifull to watch. |
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
Dang it!! I got tied up on the phone when she was first rattling at the two bucks when the third showed up...RING. And then I missed the rest until they showed her holding its head up.

RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
I saw it too. Realtree could do better and nor show such garbage.

RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
Glad I missed it.<img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
I saw the show also. I am a big fan of Realtree, but, this was BAD! I couldn't believe what I was watching. The lady OBVIOUSLY didn't practice with that bow because if she did, she would have realized the draw weight was too much for her. Then, she kept fumbling the arrow around, causing all kinda chaos in the tree. Then, when she shot, I almost flipped out. She hit the deer as David had explained, about half way back and VERY HIGH. The funny thing was that she said she "heard the deer crash just on the other side of the field". I have seen deer shot through both lungs run further than how far this deer "supposidly" went. The dry firing was amussing also.
Realtree has had one other shot that reminds me of this. A lady was hunting and had a big buck come in. She tried drawing her bow back but she couldn't, she pulled a muscle in her shoulder while trying to get it drawn back. Then, the lady TRIED AGAIN, and the camera man helps her. Now, she is at full draw, barely able to hold it, wobbling like nothing that I have ever seen. You could give a person with tremors and they would hold the bow more steady. Does she let down and not "risk a bad shot", NOPE, she takes it and shoots over the deer. For the most part, the Realtree videos have guys shooting bucks and making great shots, but, these two ladies shouldn't have been hunting IMHO. RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
I saw the show this morning. I was not impressed at all. I just wonder where these people hunt, where they can actually pull back on a deer...dry fire...and the deer dont' even react. I think the woman was Jay Gregory's wife, and Jay was the cameraman who helped her. The draw weight was obviously too much. She may have been hunting in a state where there is a required draw weight. I dont' know. But I think she should invest in a different rest...such as a whisker biscuit. I had problems with my arrow not staying on the rest, so I fixed the problem by getting a different rest. If you actually PRACTICED before you went out, you would know whether your draw weight is TOO MUCH, and whether or not your arrow will stay on the rest or not. It was an absolute MIRACLE to see her walk away with the deer that she did. I'm glad she did not get the bigger buck that was there.

RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
Obviously.... we're not pretty enough. I'm close... but the rest of you are never going to get it. I just need a couple more hairs in my wig to fill it in. And maybe dye it blonde. It's getting crazy with these shows. To insure they're politically correct all the shows are adding more and more women, kids and handicapped. It's getting so the shows are less and less normal run of the mill hunters. OR, my concept of whos doing all the hunting in the country is wrong. REALLY, show after show is all the above and less and less about Billy Bob who can hunt without someone reloading or pulling his bow for him/her/etc.
|
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
I agree,
I haven't seen many shows that remind me of real hunters. I don't know anyone who hunts places where they see deer every time they go, and hunt with the newest high tech equipment whether it works or not, and end up getting a dozen big bucks every year in several different states. "Hey ya'll, watch this" |
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
was she good lookin? <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
My Husband and I watched this morning and OH JEEZE WE WERE LAUGHING OUT LOUD. My Husband called this Lady the Ringmaster of Bowhunting Clowns.
But seriously I guess it wasnt really anything to be laughing about. It was unreal, she could barely pull the bow back, if she arched her back anymore pulling back that bow I think she would of ended up doing a back bend, I kept thinking any second Im gonna hear the poor lady cry out in pain as the camera picks up the sound of one of her muscles or tendons tearing. It would take a whole lot more than a whisker Bisquit to right the # of wrong done in this one hunt. Im not perfect but jeeze I make sure I can at least pull back my bow pounadage and hold it there for one minute before I attempt to hunt with a bow, and this is done in respect for the animals I hunt and to help and insure the sucess of my hunt AND PROPER SHOT PLACEMENT, although I am not perfect in this either. The final insult to add to injury was at the show finaly when the Host was congratulating the ladies for a fine and sucessful hunt. Ive never seen anything like it before and I pray I never will again. As for all the makeup and jewelry I see some women wearing when hunting just like in this hunt were wearing, their time might be better spent on Bow tunning and practicing on the target range than in the makeup room. Like I always say, I MUST OF BEEN WAXING MY BOW STRING WHEN IT WAS MAKEUP TIME. |
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> I too saw that show & I got the impression that she & her hubby (the cameraman) have an outdoor show of their own!!! I surely do not class that as a good shot...what a joke!!!!!!! Just my own .02 censt worth!!!!!!!! Brampton Mike <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
Lady Forge,
Do you still hunt? My wife sees twice the deer that I do when we still hunt - I think it's one place where smaller is much better. beprepn |
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
Ridiculous!! I didn't see that one thank God, but they are getting insane. Doesnt' send a good message to newbies. Just bring whatever equipment out there, make as much noise as you want, hit the deer wherever it doesn't matter, and practice??? Heck who needs that it's only a bow. I don't understand why these shows don't try their hardest to give the viewer the real thing. We're the ones keeping them on the air!! I suppose they are attempting to be politically correct like you said David. The worst part of this whole thing is I'll never be on one cause I'm butt ugly!!!

RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> Unbelieveable! I did not see this show so I appreciate the description. Can somebody verify if it was the Gregory's again.
It makes one question how gullible they think we are. Was she wearing a bikini?<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Just wondering, you know what they say, "sex sells". <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> |
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
I did not see the show. WHY did she not realize the bow was to big for her when she practiced with it many times. Then maybe She never practiced? I seen a show something like that with the Gregorys Wife last year,But she had the flu and was very sick. Was that the same show?
|
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
No Cardeer, I'm pretty sure it was not the show you were talking about. I missed the very beginning of her hunt, with the rattling sequence, but I never heard any complaints of anyone being sick. The sick thing was watching her pull back that bow. I just cringed when I saw her struggling to get it all the way back.
I'm pretty sure it was Tammi Gregory. And I've seen her shoot before where she didn't have a problem. And I've seen Jay do hunts that are fabolous. I really dont' know the reason behind the circus she put on in this show. ![]() |
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
James.... that looks like the buck.
|
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
I did not see the show yesterday, but it sounds like the one that cardeer mentioned. I'm guessing it's the same hunt from last year. They said she had the flu, missed her first shot, and had the cameraman help pull back for the second shot. It was definitely a circus. I can't believe they would air something like that on TV.

What do you want? If you wanted run of the mill hunters we'd be suffering through live on-air farting, 4:00am jelly rolls and cussing. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> |
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
I know for a fact this girl farts too.
|
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
I agree a terrible show the way she pulled the bow back and the hit wasn't a good shot at all just my opinion.
|
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
I saw this show yesterday as well and I couldn't believe it. I did notice that when she finally got the bow pulled back and after the camerman reached up and put the arrow back on the rest for her that the camera zoomed in on the deer and she was no longer in the picture. It made me wonder that since she had so much trouble with this bow if there wasn't a third person there with another bow that actually shot the deer, since you never see her shoot the deer because the camera zoomed in on the deer. The shot placement was very bad as well with poor penetration and made me wonder if someone with a rifle wasn't nearby to finish it off.
|
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
Yes, that was gregorys wife. the announcer said that they take turns hunting and filming as Gregory put the arrow back on the rest.
Terrible shot/poor penetration. FOOLPROOF? Never underestimate the power of a fool! What if the "Hokey Pokey" really is what it's all about? |
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
You know I am getting bored myself with all these Outdoor Channel programs. There are still a few that maintain a standard but most are like Davidmil said, getting caugt up in this politically correct crap! I made a bad shot and took my doe this year with a spine shot, regretted it all year, got deer fever and shot the deer not the spot. When I see these shows I feel like some of the rest of you why don't they film us! Anyway, can't remember what show I saw, and I mentioned it on another post about the female archer that shot through the decoy with the arrow to hit the gobbler. They said great shot, I was throwing things at the TV set and thinking what kind of idiots do they take us for, it was to say the least unsafe, had the arrow deflected it could have richocheted anywhere and then it could have caused a poor hit on the gobbler. Well anyway that is my two cents, but then I am sitting here judging and unlike these folks, and some talk show hosts, I am judging and critizing them! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>

Let me in the stand with her.
I'll show yall a bad shot with poor penetration!!! Sorry. Just couldn't resist. David. Girls don't fart, they Fluff Good Luck. Capt Brad. I can hear Rick gettin' his key out now |
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
Has anybody emailed the Gregory's about the show?
|
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
What's the point? I don't want to sound like some Crotchetty old fart. I want to LIVE the part.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote<font size=1 face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote> Finally I said to heck with it, find a hole. I found a hole, a 4 point walks in it at what I called a long 30 between two trees. I have to squeeze the arrow through a 5 inch crack at 20 yards. It sails perfectly through and slides right under his belly. I range my arrow sticking in a tree.... 38 yards.[!]
So, I passed up a couple slam dunks trying to get a whack at the 8. Then I took a long shot and missed. Of course I'm crotchetty. My THUNDERHEAD buried in an oak past the end of the arrow. I unscrew it and leave a calling card buried at ground level in an oak. Of course I'm crotchetty. I don't want to talk about it.<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' size=2 id=quote> Maybe you should practice what you preach. |
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
I think they put on a good show,BUT! I was once watching an elk video of theirs and they were talking about how rough these hunts are and how wary elk are. Keep in mind they're hunting on flat ground in NM. What turned me off is this young kid who takes the bull is wearing brite white sneakers. They were trying not to show it but slipped a couple times.

RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
Yep, I saw it. I watched it with my daughters and was trying to force my wife to watch it as well. "See honey, these women bowhunters don't dip snuff...they even wear makeup." Being the only male in the house I was excited to point out to all of them that they could hunt with me someday and that it is just not a men's sport. Then as we continued to watch and she kept on frickin' rattling the horns while the 3 bucks were fighting and they paid no attention to her but later she insisted that she "rattled them in". Then as the bucks meandered up to an open shooting area I shrieked as I watched her point the bow to high noon and give it the ole heave ho in an attempt to get the bow back and then I could not figure out what the heck happened with her dry firing her bow. I kept saying "what the heck happened? What did she do? Why are the bucks still just standing there?" Then she heave ho's the bow again and her arrow falls off and her hubby is there to help her put the flippin' arrow back on her rest for her. By this time I'm beside myself and assuring the rest of my family that it really should not go this way. Then the buck she draws on is staring at her but then starts to walk and then hubby Jay does the patented Realtree "baaaaa" to get the buck to stop and she lets the arrow fly where it nails the buck high in the back between the guts and the lungs. I say "ooooooooh bad shot...they aren't gonna find that one soon. Then the next shot is of her and it is dark and I'm saying "see they couldn't find him...she lost him...bummer." Then much to my amazement she walks a few feet, pushes back some foilage and low and behold, there is the buck.....hmmmmmmm.

RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
I didn't see this one but some of you might remember a similar thread that I started here. In that show it was winter and she couldn't get the bow back and she started crying and her husband (who was filming) reached down and helped her draw her bow and then she took a shot and missed the buck. It was the most pathetic friggn thing that I have ever seen in my life! Now apparently she's at it again! I like Jay and he seems like a good hunter but this crap with his has turned me against him. I emailed them the last time and never got a resonse. I would like to hear an explanation!

RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
Wolfen, you have by far the best play-by-play of what happened on that show. I'm just cracking up, reading how you have portrayed the show. You do it well.
|
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
Hi,
Guys, lighten up a little! I saw it and it was different. The hit wasn't as bad as been made out to be.I think the arrow was angling forward.Ive hit deer there before with my Rocket Hammerheads and they never made 50 yards. |
RE: Speaking of TV shows (2)
Sorry Tree Hugger, but if you don't get both lungs, they don't go down in fifty yards. There are exceptions, but that is the rule and mother nature made it, not us.
The bad shot isn't even the main issue to me, it's the circus act before the shot and the fact that the deer are too tame to run. There are many, many women archers out there that could represent the "real" bowhunting community so much better. If I want to see a pretty woman all made up, I'll watch Baywatch. In a bowhunting show, I want to see the archer wait patiently for the right time to draw, draw in one smooth motion and execute a good shot with good shot placement. The instant they have to point the bow at the moon and do a contortionist act to achieve full draw, I'm ready to turn the channel. I don't remember what show it was, but I once watched a cute blonde woman make a perfect double lunger on a rather large grizzly bear. The draw and shot execution were a thing of beauty. That's what I want to see in a bowhunting show. She proved without a doubt that a woman can do it the right way. |
