There's some thing about the quality of those pics that makes me question fair chase, not a shadow to be seen. Great buck on his own .

As soon as the pictures loaded up I was thinking..."Where do I know that guy from?"
Then I remembered the Crutchfield buck from MD and somebody beat me to it.
One thing I find amazing about that animal is just how small it's body is in relation to its rack. The picture in field and Stream this month is almost comical of this deer. It looks like a monster rack thrown on an average sized doe's body.
I forget the exact weight but I think I remember reading that he said it only weighed like 160lbs or something, maybe less?
It also has a very unique colored face, I don't think I have ever seen a deer with that sort of pattern. Really an interesting buck.

Another amazing thing is how bad information spreads about certain pictures of big animals.
The ones of the cougar on the back porch looking in the sliding window come to mind ,and the other one of the big cougar a guy is straining to hold up have been "Officially" tied to and confirmed by someone's friend's brother's sister in law to at least 26 counties in PA, every NE and midwest state and probably 3 Canadian provinces. All followed by an "I swear this is true" LOL;):D
