RE: Did you ever have a spot that went completely cold?
They opened one gate on the military base I hunt and a hotspot went dead in less than 4 weeks. I used to ride my bike in with my buddy for over 1 mile, then hike in a 1/2 mile to a remote bedding area...he actually saw bucks, 13 straight sits in the woods..it was unreal. This year, the sign is there, but both of us have really seen only 1 nice buck...not sure when those deer are moving b/c the huge rubs are there but they are nowhere to be seen.

Well my little honey hole is pretty dead minus a few nice does, thier fawns, and a few small bucks and does until the end of october. Then last year, toward the end of november it seemed like it was frigid. This year was cold compared to last year too.

YUP, had the same type of deal happen. We called the place the petting zoo. You were always going to see deer. It was a monestary. Well they decided to build a barn/utility/store the tractors shed in this one strip of woods that saw lots of traffic. Mind you this was only a small percentage of the woods but it led to all sections. The day they poured the floors the woods went dead. They had crews in there doing stuff and all that, but the woods several hundred yards away went dead over night. Hunting became harder. We figured it would get back to normal the next year. NOT A strange deal for sure. The deer started traveling the open field we couldn't hunt right up against a neighborhood of yuppie houses. For years they had traveled the corridor.

As soon as the orange army shows up with their dogs all my spots go frigid.

RE: Did you ever have a spot that went completely cold?
yep, had a spot on a buddy's farm that i had picked out and said we shouldn't hunt it until the pre-rut and rut period, well he hunted it failry recklessly in the early season. I decided, seeing how it wasa natural funnel anyway, to see if it would produce during the prerut and rut and noticed upon 3 sits that they were avoiding me by about 75 yards! so i set in a treestand that we had near the point of this funnelling draw and on the 14th of november shot a monster 11 pointer that is my best buck yet!! if a spot goes cold.....the best bet is to find out, by scouting, where/how they are avoiding that area and set up there, might be a great tactic for ya!
