Does this photo get your heart pumping?

Not a big old bruiser by any stretch....but this photo (posted by RTA47 in the "take quality photos thread, above) just gets mine pumping.

Ithought it was a great photo of what we're all looking for from stand!:) I know how I'm feeling when I see this, below me!

No not at all. Now if it was a buck supporting a 130-150" rack then absolutely. For some reason, when I see does and young bucks it really doesn't do anything for me anymore. There was once a day when any deer that came into range I got the shakes. Don't get me wrong, any time I can go out and see deer near me I enjoy it and chalk it up as a successful hunt. However, it takes a little more than a fork horn to get my blood boiling. LOL;)

This is my second full season hunting.....having hunted a 1/2 season in '05. I don't mind admitting that the sight of ANY buck....and MOST does gets my heart pumping HARD. I "hope" it always does.

i wouldn't be reaching for the bow on the hook.....but my heart would DEFINITELY be pumping at this sight below me!:)

Here is a little video of a decent buck I took with my digital camera... A little shakey and the resolution is terribleafter transferring it from my camera to the PC and then to photobucket. [/align]
He is aprox 15 yards away coming into a scrape (the same scrape I missed the shot op on if you read my thread) in this short clip. I think he went mid 120's or so. Allthe noise is from my camera auto rezooming everytime I moved it.... Poor footage really.

Anyhow... Check it out.

never attempeted to take pics from my stand before that buck...my camera makes an awful noise when the lenses come out and open...i was shocked it didnt spook him..(the one from the stand) he was close..flash going off and all lol..i was playing games with him..every time hed look away id grunt...then i played around with whistleing, clapping, snapping my fingers, then talked to him lol. funny he would just looked around then go back to feeding...he stood about 35yds out for a good minute or 2 when he came into the rattling/grunting..always love seeing deer

Any deer on stand within bow range gets my heart pumping pretty good. Try being on the ground and having one in bow range. What makes it all even better is when they have no clue you are there. Priceless.:)

I still get an adrenaline rush from a doe that slips in, even though I would not have any intention of shooting him- my adrenaline would take a boost

RE: Does this photo get your heart pumping?

Jeff, i have a lock on within 50yds of that buck on the road:D just teasin you a bit...

remember the "orchard" that i thought would be a real honey hole? i put a lock on in there this season for the early doe season...only hunted it once, but its on the hillside directly behind that buck lol...

i got spots like that, and spots i am earshot of traffic, trains, people, etc...then i got other spots if i hear a human noise, i am in shock...

i like to mix it up some..the urban hunting holds alot of deer, and some good bucks...but i also like the big woods and unpressured deer...like that small buck in the picture...it was 10-12 and he ran into rattling/grunting...hed be dangerous to even a monster buck with them dagers he had for antlers :D the deer up there were unpressured as far as we know since last winter...heard the neighbors dog bark, and the occassional car fly down the mountain road, and if you listen hard when its calm you can here I-80 humming, because its only a few miles away, but its far from the urban hunting i have here at home..

If you'll check out my other thread "What can you hear"....you'll see that the VAST majority of people who hunt on this board deal with human related noises and predicaments while they hunt. The VAST majority.

It's almost unavoidable.

I hear ya, Greg! I'm sure that would do it, too.

There's something about the view in the pic I posted that gets me going, though. Straight down and he don't know you're there!

Great photo, Greg!

It seems every deer at first site gets my heart pumping. Now once I decide on shoot or no shoot then I calm down a bit. If its a split second decision then yes I get going a bit, which most of the time it is.

No. It's not a good shot.

RE: Does this photo get your heart pumping?

Depends on how you define "pumping" :D

Does it encite the desire of wanting to sit in a tree and bow hunt....YES.
Does it make me excited/nervous because I relate it to the feeling of a deer in close to me...NO. I just don't get that excited for a deer being close to me. I like it, and want to see as many deer close as I can, but I don't "loose" it whena deer comes in.

This deer was bedded at 22 yards then heard the camera go off.

RE: Does this photo get your heart pumping?

I used to get really really excited and shakey, but last year I saw so many deer that I learned to control it (i hate it when they sit and stare at you). Mo doubt I still get excited, but its a shame that I dont start shaking at every deer I see.

This year I heard this deer coming toward me, it was grunting and I was all excited, then i didn't hear anything for a while. Then I calmed down. 15 min later, I hear it coming, so I stand up and get ready, but I blow it. Suddenly it just stops, and Im trying to stay real still, but I was probably moving my head looking at squirrels or something. It may have saw me. Suddenly it heard it and glimpsed lotsa bone. It had somehow walked around me along a creek. Had I really been paying attention, i may have seen it but it didn't make a sound.

Its really heart breaking when you see the buck of your dreams walking away down wind from you. I havn't seen him since. Damn, had I had some buck lure or maybe been more careful, I would have got him.

The last time I really got excited, there were these two does walking along the creek, when suddenly I hear something coming from the other direction. I thought it was grunting, but i guess it was more like fawn bleats. Well i'm drawn back and its just a damn button buck.

Last week I heard all these does runing around, they ran in front of me (three of 'em) then went back where they came from, ran all the way around the pond back to me, then away from me, when suddenly I see a little buck chasing them around. Throughout all that, I only initially was excited. Then when the buck chased a button buck back to me, (I could hear em coming) I wasn't really excited. I even drew and was contemplating shooting or not, trying to judge how big the deer was. But i didnt shoot and I was as calm as I could be. Shure I was excited and my heart was pumping.

I usually get it all after i shoot.

RE: Does this photo get your heart pumping?

Most of the time we just see woods. So yes, when I see any deer
my first reaction is excitement. Shoot or not I will always love having
deer under my stand!

GMMAT 11-27-2007 05:52 PM

RE: Does this photo get your heart pumping?

I've seen well over 500 deer from my stand, now.....OK...over 600. So seeing a deer don't do it (make me overly excited). That view (the photo)......does.

Just being honest. I think back to the times I've had a deer in that scenario.....waiting for it to turn.....already picking a spot.......waiting to draw......nerves shaken........heart pumping........

That photo "does it" for me.;)
