Dr. Andy is right. Someone does the hard work and then the TV person shows up and pulls the trigger. The person doing the work doesn't get the buck, he gets lots of green bucks.

Its not as easy as it looks on TV. Sometimes they hunt for days and days to get that shot and you only see the payoff. Further those ranches have fed, bred and nursed those deer for years or decades.

You only get to see the pay off of someone elses hard work that sometimes takes years.

People who watch hunting shows and then go hunt thinking they will get similar results are the same people who watch porn and wonder why every good looking woman they meet at the bar or anywhere doesn't jump in bed with them.

Sure doesn't sound like much of a challenge

Sounds to me like a little bit of jealousy going on here.
I think wewould all love to be that TV Personality being
catered to on dream hunts. If we could have our kids or
friends taking advantage of that too, we would be fluffing
our feathers. BUT WE HAVE TO WORK AT IT LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.
Enjoy the deer on the video, don't blame the hunter!
Buyers dictate what is seen.

I couldn't think of anything more boring than sitting in a box blind looking to shoot an animal at 300 yards.

My thoughts exactly. You see, some people just care about the kill of the bug buck, to most of us it's about how we kill that buck, what went into it.

I think we need to seperate the different facts a bit. Most of what they're doing is in actuality extremely hard work - it's the hunting portion that isn't in our minds. All of the farming, planning, watering, and managing of the properties is hard work. The people who do that are just like every other midwest farmer putting long hours, except the crop is different. The farmers and wildlife biologists have a hard job on those ranches, it takes a lot of time and even more money to produce any ranch of that caliber. The hunting portion on the other hand is the easy part. Pop up tripod, have truck drive you to tripod, wait, shoot straight, deer. Done. Hunt over. That's not the kind of hunting the majority of us like or agree with, but that is how it is done in that part of the country at times. Who are we to knock them for their way of life? Just know in your mind that your deer came at a greater cost of time and exertion and with greater skill involved.

Yes the rancher does work hard. Nobody denies that. The problem is the commercialization of hunting. Yes, people buy their deer. That is not a way of life or tradition, that my friend is buying success.

There are just not many "quality" shows that reflect real world hunting but I guess I watch them all anyway.I would like to seeof them scout and hunt the public land I do. There would not be a lot of footage.

The key is the DVR!!! I just FF to the 3 minutes leading up to a shot and bipass all the commercials and fluff. You can watch 3 hours worth of shows into 20 minutes and rewind the kill shots.

Kind of confused on this post. If a guy owns his own land or ranch isn't he free to manage and hunt it as he pleases? He has a right to make a living also, and obviously people buy the videos and product. Would I find enjoyment in that kind of hunt? No. But I am not thatignorant to say I hunt the right way and those guys hunt wrong. Everyone has a right to hunt the way they want, as long as it's within fish and game laws.

I think you guys are missing something here. They don't just show up and pull the trigger/release an arrow. They show up and produce a video, in which they kill large deer in. I'm sure there is a fair amount of planning and homework involved in that. Just not all by one person. They have the owners do the scouting and stand setting because they simply can't do it, they have to many other places to be to spend that much time trying to shoot one deer.

They don't hunt for living, they produce videos for a living, among many other things depending on who you are talking about. I am sure Bill Jordan works fairly hard at what he does, he didn't get rich screwing around traveling to ranches to kill deer tied to a tree (which is how you guys make it sound sometimes).

If you don't like them then the simple thing is to not watch them. Not watch 6 hours of it a week and come on the internet and whine about how "unreal" it is. I don't even watch any of these channels because they just get a bit old after a while. I do have a few of the real tree videos though and find them interesting. I find it amazing how many can't seem to kill deer doing everything right, (supposedly) yet these guys can go out with a film crew and kill them. I don't care if its a ranch or not, deer are deer you still have to have a clue what you are doing. I have watched enough of these videos to know they don't all get shot at 300 yards in perfect conditions. As a matter of fact I'm having a hard time remembering that many that are like that. Most are much closer than that.

I would consider Chuck Adams to be someone that actually hunts for a living, and others like him.
