Hi,
I live in central MN.--where are you planning on hunting? |
RE: minnesota hunting any good?
My friends live in babbit. From what I understand....its in the north east.

It's hard to say what the weather will be doing that time of year but if you are anywhere north of Duluth,MN. i can almost guarantee it will get very COLD in the last hour or two of the day before sundown. You will need to practice with alot of heavy clothing on to prepare for the realistic hunting situation.People will think you've lost your mind practicing with all those clothes on in Nevada! That probably will be a little early in the season for the deer to being really active but i know they have BIG deer up there.Good luck!

What time of year would be better? We are makeing our plans around the best time to hunt.

RE: minnesota hunting any good?
I honestly think a better time would be about two or three weeks later than your original planned date of the third--probably around the 24th.Typically that has been my better hunting time and i'm in central MN.

I wrote all of this info. assuming that you are talking about the best time to bowhunt right? If you are rifle hunting then you only have a two week time span to hunt.

RE: minnesota hunting any good?
Yeah I am bow hunting. To hard to get a rifle on a plane.
Thanks for the info. |
RE: minnesota hunting any good?
I live and hunt near grand rapids, mn. thats about 1.5 hrs south east of babbitt. Babbitt is in what is called the iron range. Alot of iron ore has come from that county! The best time to bowhunt is mid to late oct. The weather still may be warm(35-50)but don't count on it.
By late oct the temps should be in the 20s and 30s with some rain. The babbitt area is forested and many lowland forest. You will probably be hunting in the big woods. Alot of the land is public(state and fed), so you shouldn't have any trouble finding land to hunt. Because of the continous forest you may have to rethink your current ways of hunting. In north woods 10% of the ground holds 90% of the deer. During gun season, tree stand and drives are the most common ways to hunt. Pick an area that shows alot of deer sign, recent aspen clearcuts, and look for choke points or bottle necks in the forest cover. Aerial photos can be viewed at the MDNR website to aid in finding some hunting areas or locations before you get here. |
