4 1/2 at least. I know it's been said possibly 3 1/2, but I've seen the deer's shed from the previous year and a shed that size wasn't grown by a 2 year old, I'll tell ya that!!

RE: Hanson Buck

The reason why im asking is because me, my teacher, his brother in law all think its around 5 1/2 years old.. My uncle thinks its only 3 1/2 years old so we got in a big fight about it lastnight, I just cant see that buck being 3 1/2 years old, the spread and mass and the height he has i just cant picture that being that young of a buck... What does everyone else think about it?

I don't know but it certainly isn't worth fighting about is it?

I do seem to remember that it had a relatively small body for a canada deer.

I think it only dressed around 180 lbs

no its not worth fighting for but he got on my nerves because he's always "Mr.Right" and whatever he says is true...

Similar information on several sites:

Deer Base Information Shot Nov. 23, 1993 near Biggar Saskatchewan. Official Boone and Crockett score is 213 1/8. This replaces the Jordan Buck, shot 80 years ago. The Hanson Buck was shot on land belonging to Milo Hanson. Shot with .308 Winchester 150 grain factory ammo - three shots hit the buck. The rifle was a Winchester model 88 with a Weaver K4 scope. The distance was about 100 yards for the inital shot, running straight away. A large fragment of the first bullet is embedded in the left main beam, causing a crack and significant removal of antler material. The main beam is structurally sound. The Hanson Buck antlers are incredibly wide and uniform with great tine length. The buck was an estimated 3 1/2 years old. The estimated body weight was 200 pounds. The body was not large compared to many mature Saskatchewan bucks.

Here's a link that shows the Hanson buck's left side shed from the year before Milo killed it (the 1992 growing season), back when the buck had a typical 5 point left frame. There's no way this shed is from a 2 year old buck.....

Just isn't any way that deer was only 3 1/2 y.o. To much mass and width.and shot Nov 23rd of course he would be ran down from the rut.

RE: Hanson Buck

I think he was orignally "estimated" to be a 3.5 y/o but I''m not sure they ever had his teeth cut to verify. In any case I agree the previous years shed would show he had to be at least 4.5 when harvested.

i agree, simply run down from the rut. just inconceivable that a 2 year old could have a rack like that the year before! funny how folks want to believe that he was 3 to inflate the story.
