RE: What's your opinion on "Gun" bucks?

How is killing a buck w/ a firearm cheapened??? A trophy buck is a trophy buck, no damn matter what method it was taken by...How can it be any LESS of a trophy????? I am strictly a bowhunter, but why do bowhunters sometimes come across as superior to firearms hunters?? GMMAT's question isn't a question of which is better or worse.....I'm not sure why "being cheapened" is even being brought up.

Personally, I think it's pretty cut/dried in this case. This is the BOWhunting forum.....if you shoot a buck w/ your gun, post it up there. I think those of us hanging out in the bowhunting section should cruise on over to that forum and spend some time there as well.

I'm gonna head on over and post up my buck I shot w/ my bow.....I just wonder how long that lasts....

Hey GMMat, why dont you just come out and say it outright instead of testing the waters first and then beating around the bush. You dont like it and you would like them moved to the appropriate forum. Dont get all upset at me, I have a thing about being candid.

I think they dont belong here. They should go to the other section, but the other section should be renamed blasting totally helpless deer at the maximum possible range so as not to "cheapen" anyone who might otherwise click the link thinking it was just deer hunting in general.

Sorry GM, that second part was my feelings mixed with some humor, not putting words in your mouth. Fixing it momentarily

It will last Mobow as that forum is Deer Hunting.

At first the title of this thread threw me off but after reading it I realizedit isn't about gun bucks in generalbut rather pictures of gun bucks in the bowhunting forum, but in all honesty my initial thoughts were "Here we go with the bow bucks vs. gun bucksdebate."

The biggest buck I have killed this season I killed through mind control, I used a technique similiar to the Jedi Mind Trick and told the deer to quit breathing right in front of my stand. I haven't told anyone about until now because there is no forum for it.[:@]

I'd like to sign up for that class. Imagine how much lighter you can travel to and from your stand![:-]

Then I'd take the second semester: How to will your dead deer to your truck. 102

If someone is a regular participant in the bowhunting forum than likely we would have a sense of knowing that person a bit.Personally for me I would like to see what they have killed and since the bowhunting forum is by far where I spend the most time it is fine with me that they post their picture there.
I am an avid bow hunter, but I also am an avid rifle hunter.Bottom line is that I am an avid deer hunter. When I have killed so many great bucks with a rifle that I believe it to be boring or to easy,I will hunt exclusively with archery equipment.I don't see that happening in the area's that I hunt in.
Greg H that's a beauty Congratulations!

RE: What's your opinion on "Gun" bucks?

The passion for hunting is what brought everyone to this site. It's a common link between all of us. There are many different variations in hunting, and that is what the different forums are for. Those are to help guide topics and thread into an organized system where people can read, learn, and experience certain aspects of their passion. It has been said many times over that we are family on here. Some closer than other, but we are all connected by a bond...the passion, love, and joy for hunting. That bond is greater than any system of organizational forums.

When a person kills a deer, they want to share it with those who are closest to them. If we (the Bowhunting Forum) begin to start shunning those family members to another forum, simply because they killed their deer a different way, I think that is sending the wrong message. The link between all of us shouldn't be broken, simply because some of us choose different weapons at times.

There are lots a people on here who solely bowhunt, but I'd bet there are many times more who pick up a gun from time to time. If we begin shunning those (family) members and their accomplishements, I believe we will have forgotten the common link between us. Sure there are differences between a bow-deer and a gun-deer, but its not (at least in my opinion) so much about the deer, but more about the person, the hunt, the accomplishment, and the feelings they have.

It is for that reason that I don't have a problem with gun-deer in this forum....its not so much about the gun, but about the hunt and the bond. As for any gun pics that show up in here simply to get more 'hits', I'd say move them in a heart beat, but in general that's not the ones being posted. They are being posted to share with their close friends.

As some of you know, I wasn't able to bowhunt this year because I'm away at college and I miss it very much...I've written a few thread on it here. I do get to hunt for about 6 hours with my rifle on Monday before I have to go back to school. If I do get a deer then (with my rifle), you can be sure I will post the pic and story in the Bowhunting Forum. Not because I think it will get more hits, but because this is where I normally visit, this is where my 'closest friends' are. This is where I feel the strongest bond. I would feel horrible if my deer was shunned, simply because I killed it with a gun.

A good deer is a good deer no matter what they were taken with. The hunter that took it has had a great experience that we should all be happy for him/her.

I enjoy seeing deer. period.

I also understand the rules and don't mind going through the Deer Hunting forum to look around. As long as it don't get too out of hand, I don't mind seeing one of "our" gun kills once in a while. The way Atlas posted his is probably the best way to do it. The word or thought "cheapened" never entered my mind.

Great post! I feel as if Im the reason this post was started, I posted a buck that I killed on Monday with a shotgun and added pics today and all of sudden this thread went nuts!! Anyway, I would love to see pics if you killed a deer Monday, post em!!!

The deer hunting forum doesn't have as much interaction at the bowhunting forum does. Don't believe me.....take a look at the hunting team threads on both forums. People want to post deer pics where it will actually be seen.[&:]

RE: What's your opinion on "Gun" bucks?

I think GregH has the same idea I had when I posted my buck Monday. It was a bowhunter taking a gun and still shooting a nice buck, I did twice with the bow this year and posted those pics too. It was the guys on here that I have kinda gotten to know over the past 2 months. I understand that we can't have every gun hunter and his uncle posting pics on here, but, as a bowhunter that also gun hunts, why not??
