teh vid I saw they were using switchbacks. I havnt heard much great about the three blades. the 2's are the way to go. my bud just shot one at 40 plus yards and hit the back shoulder. no pass through, but shattered the back shoulder and split the heart . Ran less than 60 yards. if you couldnt find the deer, chances are it was a low percentage shot. maybe a single lung. but with a good shot pass throughs are possible at 45 lbs. seen it done

Not with 50#. 60# ok but not 50# for 50 i would recommend going with fixed blade broadheads.

i personally wouldnt recommend ANY expandable head to anyone shooting under 65 lbs, preferably 70, but I like to error on the side of caution.

At 50 lbs, NO TO MECHANICALS!!!! In my honest opinion, 50 lbs is not enough KE to reliablycounton a clean kill with mechanicals. Use a fixed blade such as a Slick Trick, Montec, Wac 'Em Triton, Nap Thunderheads, Muzzy'setc.
They'll give you honest pass thru performance even at quartering shots. Forget mechanicals, they have more hype attached to them than the truth; they cripple alot of deer! Today, two more guys I know are switching back to fixed blades after hunting this season with Rages. They're both excellent bowhunters with tons of experience and one owns an archery shop!! !!! Need I say more?

Unless someone can show test data that proves otherwise, I don't see why you couldn't use the Rage with a 50# bow. Someone made a good point about Tiffany Lakosky using them.

You can hedge your bets a little and usethe heaviest arrow that has the correct spine. The heavier arrow gives you a little more KE due to better transfer of bow energy to arrow energy, a little more downrange KE due to a smaller loss coefficient, and a fair amount of extra momentum available to open and push the broadhead through the deer.

Doubling the total arrow weight consequently leads to about 50% more penetration capabililty.

The downside is that the lower velocity makes range estimation more critical.
