well it depends i would have to look at both, does the 40 have a creek or river through it? it completley depends on what the land is like.

80 acres and make 20 acres right in the middle a sactuary. That will keep them happy and give you the best chances of keeping them safe on your property.

Both are too small to really manage. Without the neighbors doing it too your efforts are a waste. More is better in this case.

I would go with more acres. There's more room for habitat improvement to help hold deer on your land.

In this day in age, get every acre you can. If anything it's an investment for the future.

Neighboring landowners can sell, let other people hunt, or not care one bit about management.

I personally will usually hold out and take my chances on getting a chance on bigdeer that are thereRIGHT NOW. I put little faith in passing deer in hopes of them surviving a few more years through drought(sp?), disease, roadkills, natural predators, other hunters, severe winters.etc.

One guy that is surrounded by many will make little difference...
