Elevated pop-up blind
 

I have a sweet spot in between two bedding areas that I like to hunt in the evening where I put a pop-up blind every year and see deer there. Problem is with the hills and ridges and mature trees, it's not very conducive to treestands. I've tried them 20 feet up and get spotted more often than not. The blind typically works pretty well. Get busted once in awhile but not usually.

Back to the hills and ridges, the only negative about my blind situation is I can't usually see deer until they're within about 50 yards and I'd like to be able to see out further. I am thinking about elevating my blind 5-6 feet on a simple platform and nestle the whole think against a multi-trunked tree and then brush it in further with vines and branchesto correct this problem.

Anyone ever elevate a blind in a similar fashion for bowhunting? I'm thinking that at 5-6 feet, some of my close shots might be eliminated due to shooting angles out of the blind. But most of my potential shots are from 20-30 yards anyway. In fact, elevating the blind 5-6 feet may even give me a few more shooting lanes over some brush that currently prohibits them.

It reads like you have though this out and make sense to me. Are you thinking of making your own platform or buying one? Cabelas sells some that might fit the bill for you.

I bought some brackets for making a tower stand a few yeas ago that I never got around too so I would use them plus some extra treated lumber I have laying around that never got used in a decking project. Basically, 5 foot high 4x4 legs braced with criss-crossed 2x4s and and 6 foot by 6 foot platform on top. I'd secure a sheet of carpet and blind on to the top and brush the whole think into the tree I have picked out. There's lots of deadfalls around so hopefully it would just look like another one.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I thought about doing something like this, but using scaffold instead of lumber. Go for it!

My brother built something like you are talking about. It has brackets and a platform to set your tent on top of it. It's a sweet set up. He set it up for gun hunting but you could do it for bow too since he put it like 12 feet in the air.

You could put it 5-6 feet high like you are talking about.

npockat32, those are the ones I have but thanks for the link. I got them for a lot less than in an end of the year closeout, which is why I bought them.

Brilliant! ive used deadfalls, and simply nailed a wooden Pallet onto them.. shim it with a couple 2x4s if needed and nailed a few saplings around it... worked ok for a little elevation... never did get a shot out of it though......
