Mock scrape results......

So 2 weeks ago,Dan and I decided to set up a mock scrape and freshen with some HS scrape scent, along with a dripper, and a camera to see what decided to visit. This was all setup on his property, near one of the food plots. Not really an area where we see lot of big bucks, but we see lots of little to average ones here and lots of does. I gotabout 40 pictures total of 12 different animals, of which more than half were bucks. We got nothing huge on camera (except thefirst 2 pics.......we don't know what he is exactly but he looks big), but we will be setting up the camera and another mock scrape probably this upcoming weekend in areas better known for big buck sightings just to see what we can get.

Honestly, I'm absolutely impressed with the amount of deer movement spurred by this mock scrape, and most of it is during daylight andof bucks........anyone else see this type of activity over a mock scrape? I sat on Saturday night about 70 yards away from this with my bangstick, looking to fill a doe tag and all I saw was the same 5 pointer come through that I got video of earlier this year. Still pretty cool though. I can see these mock scrapes being setup in 3-4 key locations on Dan's place as well as my own for next season, just to help takeinventory during the season. What a fantastic tool......

Here are a few of the pics to share........Look at the size of the body on the 3 point!!! What kind of animal is the last pic? [8D]

Rick ...very cool pix!

I am big fan of Mock Scrapes but I also know they are catch 22 if human odor is involved.. I've had good success this year with visits to a couple of mine, one is a 6 year going on 7 year old scrape that has basically turned into a traditional check point by does and bucks. Its located in a saddle.

Yes, I was curious and wanted to know how they reacted to it. I thought it would be a bit of an experiment, just to see what would come cruising through after. [8D]

I used the mock scrape tactic last year, and while I don't believe it attracted them to my set, I did see bucks w/ their noses in them 75% of the time I used it.....But I only set over them once so I'm not sure if they received any other attention....

I think it's a pretty useful tool.

Cool pics!

Next time I'd at least put on some rubber hunting boots and spray them down before peeing next to the scrape. If your running shoes smell as bad as mine you're in trouble!

I don't have any mock scrapes, but I have a couple that started as natural scrapes that I have been doctoring. I will try to get my last round of pics uploaded and post some of them up. Had some really cool pics this weekend but the computer at home crashed, so I can't upload them there. We'll see what I can do, I think you would like them. I use Active Scrape most of the time, but this weekend I added some doe estrous to them. The best one has a dripper on it also.

Cool Matt, I might try that. First I have to get a digital trail camera, I'm done with that 45mm film one...anybody want it?

Rob, if your going to get one honestly just get the new Moultrie D40. At $100 each, you can actually get 3-4 of them for the price of most other high end cameras. Just point facing diagonal across the trail, or on a destination spot such as a scrape or corn and the trigger speed is plenty sufficient. Honestly next year I will have probably 3 of these at Dan's place and 3-4 on mine. I've had this one for 3 weeks in the woods now and with 200ish pics I still have 65% battery life. I love this camera......
