Default Anatomy of a spine shot....

I told the story about the last buck I shot.....that my first hit in him was a spine shot. While I was talking to brknarrow about it today.....I noticed the arrow that first hit him. The BH was sheared off at the ferrul. I've never heard of that.

So...when we went over to field dress Frank's doe.....I went down to look at the carcass of the buck to see if I could find the BH. here's what I found.....

Yupper, that'll do it. I'm surprised you didn't see that when cutting out the backstrap. Amazing too is the backbone looks fine. I'm assuming you took out the spinal cord tho and perhaps the follow up shots were just as important?

I hit him in the ham with the third shot (second shot was a miss)....and the gut with the 4th shot at 50 yds.

Everything was over with in 20 seconds.

I didn't know the BH was sheared off until today.....long after I'd butchered him.....I didn't get cut....thank goodness.

The deer I shot this year hit dead on in the spine and dead center on the spinal cord. I tried pulling the arrow out and the insert just came out of the arraw. When I de-boned it I cut the broadhead out and it was in good shape. Just need some replacement blades.

If it was then that would explain a lot.

If you save the vertebra with the broadhead in it, it makes a nifty (albeit pointy), paperweight.
