Default Pan-hunting TV HACK!

I saw a show on the outdoor channel called Pan-Hunting this morning. The host was in Kansas bowhunting for whitetail and the first segement was him tryng to shoot a nice 8 point through a bunch of brush! Wounded it at 10 yards! "I didn't think I could make it through that softball sized hole in the brush, but he was the 8 point of a lifetime so I had to try" reported the host!

Next segement shows him stalking a doe across an open field, and than taking a 50 yard shot! The slow mo video shows the doe turning from slightly 1/4ing to the shot to 1/4ing away before the arrow hits it's mark and by the GRACE of GOD he makes a clean shot!
"I never felt comfortable taking a 50 yard shot 'till I got my Bowtech" (Patriot). He replies to my astonishment!

This one is better! Treestand again, big buck working his decoy and he makes a good hit at about 15 yards...pass through in the sweet spot. The buck trots 5 feet and starts to mosy away real slow, didn't even know he was hit. At 25 yards this Joker launches one at a deer COMPLETELY facing away from him and hits him in the right rump! "I NEVER pass up a second shot" is the retort this time! Even my wife, who has zero interest or background in hunting says "Wow, is he a hack or is it just me?"
I couldn't believe they air this stuff!! Now I'm not a big censor for what's on TV, but any impressionable hunter would see this and think this is how it's SUPPOSSED to be done! I was in awe and embarresed(SP?)! I've seen this show before and found it entertaining, ethical and well put together...until now.Anyone else see this??

I haven't seen it yet; but after reading this thread, I thought great, now I will have to screen what hunting shows my daughters might watch.

But I won't. I will use these as teaching aides. You know, like what NOT to do.

Yes I saw it too and my ten year old was with me. Get this, he said it was a bad shot to take. I guess he's getting taught right. I was sure the guy stated 48 yards on the show but i didn't tape it so I couldn't recheck. I wasn't impressed with the guy at all.

You know, in the early days of these videos they didn't take all these shots. They also didn't feel they had to put 20 kills on a video. I have videos going back for quite a few years.(Yup, I'm old) In the early Primos, Drury, Knight and Hale, Realtree etc ... where it was just the host and maybe another shooter or two they waited. They presented good solid shots at responsible angles. Now, every Tom, Dick and Harry who owns a private hunting paradise and can afford a $25,000 camera is making videos. Now instead of Bill Jordan or Will Primo hawking their products once or twice, we have a "PRO STAFF" crew of about 15 at every company that has to be on EVERY video. In their haste to score they have all gone or always were in the toilet when it comes to shot selection. This Pan Hunting I figure is a spin off from the success of US OUTFITTERS. Same kind of deal. They tie up some land, process applications and put you in the drawings in hopes you get a tag. Check out their website.... they're a guide service... not a video company. Stupidity breeds stupidity. You tell me they're going to tell some guy, "Wait for a better shot". Looks like their motto is "take a wing at it and see if you can hit it". I'll bet their tracking and recovery efforts show the same kind of patience...... none.

Then too, we have to remember that the earliest of bowhunters(Pope and Young, Fred Bear etc) in their writings and early videos took running shots, SUPER LONG shots and things I wouldn't recommend for anyone. It's just with the "ANTI" climate we have today we really should temper this type of behavior. To publish it on national TV is dumb.

I remember it to David. I got some of the Dave Embry Hunting videos from like mid to late 80s and he didnt need a "possee" to make a video it was him and maybe one friend and he made some great hunting videos they are still probably my favorite of all the movies i have, Dan Fitzgerald made some good videos to when he first started but today i cant say that for him. But i cant say if i got invited to join a pro staff that i would refuse the offer

"She said if I hit that fishin hole today, she's be packin all her things and she'd, be gone by noon....I'm gonna miss her, when I get home."

I can't stand most of those shows. If I could hunt a trophy paradise ever time I went, I would probably kill huge bucks every year too. I guess when you kill a monster buck every time you go, you start to get careless? As far as the 50 yard shot, I say if you can hit it every time, go ahead and shoot. But I agree that to do so on video is wrong.

"Hey ya'll, watch this"
