Intrusion Camo - the photos

On the recommendation of several people, and after having inspected the garments first-hand, I made the decision to switch from my Realtree camo over to Gray Wolf Woolens stuff in Jeff's Intrusion patterns. For early season and not-so-cold days I have a set of Intrusion Deadfall that I've been wearing, and for late-season/snow/barren trees/freezing cold conditions I have a set of lined bibs and a lined pullover in Intrusion Treeline. With the relatively mild temps so far this year I've done most of my hunting out of the Intrusion Deadfall and thus far, can't remember a deer that's picked me off in the stand and spooked. I've had plenty of them catch movement and look up at me, give me the stare-down, the head bob, and eventually either go right back to feeding or whatever else they were doing before they "saw" me. This includes an encounter I had with a small buck last weekend at 10 yards, on the ground, with him walking directly at me. He gave me the head-bob a few times, and eventually went right back on his merry way, offering me a perfect 10 yard shot if I wanted it.

To say I've been impressed and am happy with this gear and this pattern is an understatement. I love this stuff, and despite the fact that I ripped my pants crossing a fence last week and will probably have to buy a new set now, I'll don't see myself changing to anything else for a long, long time.

With that said, here are three sets of photos that Christine took of me in a tree with the Intrusion Deadfall pattern. Germ - make sure you add these to your collection.

Not too bad at all. The one with you with the sun/shadows, real nice in that pic.

Don - the pattern was created by Jeff at Gray Wolf Woolens, so I guess it's "his" pattern.

I'm sure if I got in some trees with a lot of cover or in a bid deadfall it would look even better, but these are real-life shots from stands that we hunted out of. The first two photos are of the very stand I was in when I shot the buck in my avatar to the left, and a doe from the night before. So I guess you could say I didn't "pose" these shots.

Good pics Justin. I just finished placing an order for some Predator Fall Gray over at GWW. Can't wait to get the order. While on the site, I noticed the Intrusion pattern. Once this season is over, I am going to be torn between another pattern like Intrusion or Enigma to add to my new camo. Decisions.... decisions. Intrustion Deadfall looks to be a great all around pattern from all of the pics I've been seeing.

Here is a link to the actual Intrusion Camo part of Gray Wolf Woolens website. It gives numerous pictures of how the Deadfall and Treeline patterns look in both color and b/w. Something to look at if anyone is considering this camo and wanted to see more pictures.

Nice looking camo.

I heard they retracted on deer being color blind and now think they see yellows and greens, but not reds. How will this effect are camo selections?

Nice Justin. Another high contrast pattern...light and dark. I may have to add another outfit to the arsenal for late season.

Not to steal the thread but I am curious about another high contrast pattern due out this year...Mossy Oak Treestand. My choice is basically going to be one or the other.

Thanks for the info.

Good post, Justin.

Yep, this was developed by Jeff Aulik and is solely offered through Gray Wolf Woolens. I've mentioned it in several of my posts as this was another possible pattern which had caught my attention. Marc Barger (the designer of Predator) and I have discussed it as well, and he thinks highly of it as well.

Justin, I ripped the underside of one of my sleeves last week while Matt was in, and I had a neighbor put some black fleece backing behind the tear and sew it up using a zig-zag stitch... it looks almost as good as new. You may want to see if that's possible with yours as well.

I've heard rumors of a new MO pattern, and have seen what is probably that pattern in the Drury's trophy photos from this year. To be honest, I don't know what to think of it. Looks kind of "gray" to me.

I think this is it here.

My pants are scent-lok lined, and it only ripped the wolfskin and not the scent-lok liner, and it happend literally right on the inseam. Basically from my fly about 1/2 way to my knee. I looked at how I might go about repairing it, but not sure if it's possible. Thankfully it's cold and the leaves are gone so I'll be sticking to my Treeline pattern for the rest of the year. I might try bringing it to my dry cleaners and see if they can fix it up. If not, Jeff will be getting another visit from me at the WI Deer & Turkey Expo. :D

Is this stuff available with scent lok in it? What about warmth? Looks like its just a shell and some bdus.

RE: Intrusion Camo - the photos

All of the camo patterns offered by Gray Wolf Woolens come with numerous options such as scent-lok etc. Its pretty much custom to what you want, you just have to pay extra for particular things.

Justin... do you think that you could take a closeup of just the camo? I was curious to see what the major differences was between the Treeline and Deadfall. I've seen the "stock" (pics from your 5th post) camo pattern images, but wanted to see if the Deadfall had as much brownish yellow in the background as the "stock" picture shows. From the pics I've seen of the camo in action, the Deadfall looks to have a little bit more grey. Main reason I ask is because I think I like the Deadfall pattern as an all-season pattern and depending on colors, that would only help in my future decision.

Greg, what is a zig zag stitch, something you have to have a sewing machine for and do you think I can do that with this rip?

Justin, looks good. I've been an open pattern fan for about 5 years now. I have a set of ASAT, Predator Fall Grey, and just picked up a parka in Realtree AP. It's good to see that the major camo makers are catching on t open patterns. I think it's funny that MO is re-introducing Treestand. I used the original MO Treestand for years back in the day and too my first bow kill with it.

I like the contrast in Intrusion. The layering of the pattern is very nice. The fact that it's on Wolfskin makes it even better.

RE: Intrusion Camo - the photos

Rick,

Yep, you need a sewing machine for it... and it looks like you've got enough fabric there to pull it back together and use that stitch to repair your rip. The thread actually zig-zags back and forth, and can help hold less-than-perfect tears back together. I'd say it'd work on yours by looking at that pic.

If you don't have a sewing maching, or access to someone with one, your dry cleaners can probably do it for you for around $5 or so.

All my hunting is done from a tree stand, which pattern would you guys recommend, one of the intrusions or predator fall grey? And for the guys that have either, how heavy is the lightest lined garments? Is it lite enough for say 50 deg. weather?
