is there an elevation that is too high for deer?

I went scouting on a mountaintop of the George washington national forest yesterday. I was around 3000 to 3500 ft high. I noticed that oak trees were far and few between. Is it rare to find deer at these elevations since there doesn't seem to be much food?

I have a lease that I hunt in Wyoming every year, ranging from 4500 to 5300ft ASL. There is a great mix of critters on this land ......some Monster Mulies and Whitetails. Matter of fact.....3 more days and im off to go hunt it for a week !!!
