code blue doe estrus is fake
ok I bought code blue's standing doe estrus for the rut this year. It cost me $36. Well I am here to tell you dont buy it. I used it twice and both times I had the exact same results. The peak of the rut was last tue-wed. tue I went out poared a little bit on a tampon hung it on a tree branch. About 1 hour later a cat came in smelled it and sprayed it. The next night I tried it again but this time used a maxi pad and put it on my deer decoy. Two hours later a cat came in sprayed the deer just like the last one did. They say we use one deer in heat. well ive never seen a cat come in to my bait pile or estrus like this. Has anyone had anything close to that happen? please share!

RE: code blue doe estrus is fake
Its not fake! Its just a cat being a stupid cat, they do these kinds of things! Just relax and keep using it, everything has got to work out perfect when using these scents. Its no different then rattling, if the scenario is perfect it will work, if it isn't, it will not!

RE: code blue doe estrus is fake
Too many people look for the magic potion, bait, calls and think they are supposed to work every time. They all have thier time and place.......but usually, its just not thier time. But, given the right conditions and it will work like the magic potion you expect it to be.

code blue, the 12.99 doe estrus kind turned this 9 point. he was walking behind my stand, paused raised his nose and headed right for it. I shot him at 9 yards. scent is like calls, works sometimes, but mostly doesnt.

RE: code blue doe estrus is fake
I personally just can't see myself spending $35 on scents. I'd rather just spend time in the woods scouting and find a spot where the bucks are at.

RE: code blue doe estrus is fake
I've never been big into deer scents, however this past week I tried some doe-in-estrus urine from Timber Valley Fresh Scents. They ship it with a cold pack and it's very fresh stuff. Out of curiosity I dribbled some down the tree that I was in. About 10-15 drops.
A 2.5 year old buck came by, walking in from down wind. He put his nose in the air and instead of busting me, he came in like he was on a string. When he was about 3 yards away I tried to draw my bow and he caught the movement. He bounded off but turned right around and came back in. This time I shot him when he was 20 yards away. I was impressed. It seems to be good stuff. |

RE: code blue doe estrus is fake
I have a damn cat that pisses in my mulch in my yard almost everynight. I must have poured some of this scent in it sometime or another right. Cats will piss anywhere. And a buck dumb on the rut will come in to investigate also under the right conditions.

You got a response from something even if it was a cat which is more than you will get 99% of the time. That 1% might bring something good, though. I don't use it all the time but sometimes and I did kill an 11 point that came in right between two scent wicks with his head up, obviously winding the scent.

RE: code blue doe estrus is fake
you gotta remember tat in order for a scent to work they have to be in the area to catch wind of it in the first place. just goin out and hanging one blindly won't help matters. i hunt inbetween the bed and feeding area in the afternoon. so i only use scents when the wind is goin to be right for it to be blown to them coming out of the bedding area. just like calls they have to be used at the right time nd the right place.

well I guess I just get frustrated with the whole deal. cats coming in contaminating the area. I shot a nice doe today she was about 175 plus. dont have any pics though. I still want that buck! I will try scents on opening day for sure. But I must say captain ron that is a pretty nice 9 point you got there! good luck with the rest of the year. peace

I dont see the sense in spending 36.00 for scent that noone can guarentee 100% that it will work. What a waste of money.;)

Shoot the cat.

RE: code blue doe estrus is fake
I'm going to assume that you are using unscented female products as most of these use some sort of flowery scents. Can't imagine that would be good.

RE: code blue doe estrus is fake
You spend $36 on pee, but I bet you didn't keep the tarsal glands off that doe you took.
![]() Sorry, had to rag on you a little bit. :D But seriously, one of the best lures I have ever found is real buck/doe tarsal glands. Cut them off while they are still fresh, and put them in a ziplock bag in the freezer. When you go out to hunt the next time hang one of them up. They will work better than anything you can buy in a store. You can even go down to the processor, most times they will let you get all you want. Wait 'till the rut is just kicking off and go down there. Look for ones that are dark. The darker the better, they will get nearly black before the doe goes into estrous. You can also watch the color of the tarsal glands on the does on your trail camera to help keep track of how close it is getting to the rut.;) |
RE: code blue doe estrus is fake
Sounds like you hunt to close toyour vet's office. SeriouslyI have tried scents on and off for years never having good success, i bought code blue this year and the other night had a scent rag hangin 3-4 feet off ground wind blowing into bedding, a decent 2 1/2 year old 8 walked right in on a string and put his nose right on the rag, seems to me it worked, can't say it would everytime but I nkow it can't be fake based on what I saw. Don't be so quick to judge, I hav never called a deer in with horns but I see brute after brute get killed with this technique, don't mean the horns are a phony now does it?

RE: code blue doe estrus is fake
I starting using code blue this year. Had a nice 9 pointer come right into. All depends on the deer and what they want at the time.

RE: code blue doe estrus is fake
