G-force, evidently you've never spined a deer, and heard that God awful dying BLlAAAaaaaaaaaaaaa-BLlAAAaaaaaaaaaa!!
Nick Bales- it bothers me because I have a heart, and don't get a
thrill out of watchin a deer or any other animal die in that manner.
I'm a bowhunter, and always will be because I love the sport. but that
don't mean i have to be thrilled about the dyin process. as far as watchin the arrow hit, and keepin my eye on the deer to see if he goes down, you dang right I'm gonna do that. but, I don't just sit
there and watch the dyin process. I get no enjoyment out of that.
I just don't think it's necessary to show that on tv. not because I'm worried about the anties. I could care less what they think. just show the arrow hit, and take the camera off of the animal. that's all that's necessary IMO.

I personaly would like to see the way it really happened. If for no other reason than to see the effects of the equipment the hunter is using on live game so I don't waste my time with hyped up equipment that doesn't really work. It is important that we don't show this stuff on tv becuase it would fuel the anti's fire. Blood isn't something everyone wants to see. I just like to know the truth and not watch a "G" rated, edited, fictitious act if you know what I mean.

The only deer I have seen that died in a way that I wasent able to stomic was the deer that I have spine shot.
That is sick and if you like that,I question why you hunt, indeed , what is in your mind when you go afield?.
I agree that t.v. which show such displays are doing little for the good of ourselfs and have no class.
And why do I have no right to be in the field if I cant stand such things?!,what an foolish statement!.
I need the paycheck but would rather not do some of the work, should I stay away from the job?.

It doesnt bother me to watch them die, either on tv or in the woods. What bothers me is if i see the animal not die and is laying there suffering then it hits hard and my only thoughts are to end it for them as fast as possible.

I'm not too excited about watching the process. To me it's also sort of a respect thing to the deer. Not to sit there and gaze at it flipping around and blatting. I think it's also the fact that such an elusive animal has become not so and it hits you that you've taken that away from it.
No need to show that on T.V. As far as the newbies.......hey experience it for themselves and then decide. What if they watched a show that showed that and made them never hunt. They would never get to experience the 10,000 good things about hunting which may have outweighed that particular bad thing that turned them off. I say let them experience it and then decide.

It's not that anyone necesarily LIKES to watch deer die for enjoyment all I'm saying is that it is part of the hunt, I for one would just like to see the way it really happened. I saw a hunting show last night (do it yourself hunter I think it was called) where the guy had to shoot a doe before he could go after a buck. The doe suprized him and the camera man and they didn't edit it. They showed him aiming (rifle), the deer, the moment of impact, and the deer's reaction which was falling straight down. The whole thing was so fast with no background music and frills that it made me feel more like I was there, and reminded me much of many of my hunts. That's what I like to see. A good ethical hunt.
That being said, we can't show all kills on tv. Imagine a suburban woman and a youth channel surfing and stumbling onto a hunting show with a deer gasping for air and thrashing around. Think what they would think all hunting and hunters must be like. I think they should show more of what we do with the deer after we harvest them because alot of people don't know what we do with them after the shot.

To add a bit of what most of you have already said....Death is part of life....human or animal. When speaking about human death, it's a different gig but animal death....come on....it's not even remotely the same. I don't want to sound barbaric(sp?), but I learned at a very young age growing up a dairy farm, about animal death. It happens all the time....not a big deal. That's life. If it makes your stomach turn or makes you queezy, maybe you need to pickup a different sport. We would all love to shoot a deer in this way: shoot the deer, bam it falls over and dies. But in most cases that's not going to happen especially with bow hunting. I personally like to see what the animal does after being shot....even on TV.

Nick and Stump you guys read my mind.
bogobble, if watching deer die after YOU shoot them bothers you, then take up 3D. You can shoot them over and over again and you don't have to watch them die. I bet those don't taste as good though.
I learned a great deal from watching hunting videos before I ever took up bow hunting. I learned were to shoot deer from different angles and how deer react from good hits. I also learn that it is very inmportant to do a lot of shooting and know my ability as well. So far I have been lucky enough to kill the first four deer that I have shot at because of those shows. My understanding is that most people shoot at quite a few deer before killing one.
I haven't seen very many shows that show things that I would consider bad for hunting. Most won't even show what a blood trail looks like. That is something that would be useful.
