please help need some advice?

im kinda new to the rut. havent had any success in the past hunting during the rut and was wondering where everyone likes to set up. im set up on athin line of timberthat runs along side a lake and has food sources and crp fields on the other side. the timber is only about 70 yrds across. this area is covered in rubs but have'nt seen the bucks yet. my question is should i set up on the fields or in the timber?

I wouldntbother hunting over rubs along field edges. I like to hunt right outside of the bedding areas to catch the bucks looking for does. I have an open spot in thick timber that sits between 3 major bedding areas and I hunt it every rut. If you have to, set up where you can see a ways and find out where you see the most deer. They are very easy to spot during the rut when they are running all over.

yeah i havent hunted the area but once this year and shot a doe. first sit i didnt see anything. ive been hunting in the timber the past tworuts but im really thinking of tryingthe field edge. im also having problems figuring out the bedding areas. this is public land im hunting on and my guess is their bedding in the crp or in the restricted area at the south end. the bad part is the crp fields run horizontally with the area so not sure if thats a bad thing or not?

I have found that bucks like to travel mid day scent checking doe bedding areas. They also like moving from woods to woods at the closet point of entry. Thin strips of timber along fields is also good at mid day. If you hunt in the morning any spot is good its the rut and anything can happen. Find the does and you'll find the bucks. If you see a lot of fawns that might be the wrong area. Hunting rubs and scapes I wouldn't bother with. Good luck and don't be affraid to try something new learning from mistakes is the best knowledge.
