is actually killing/seeing deer by using calls, scents and rattling within the last week?

My buddy peed out of his tree and a small buck came and peed on top if that counts. I grunt and use the can from time to time but I wouldn't say it has had any noticalbe results.

The buck I took on the 29th, last Monday came to my River Valley Deer Flute using grunts and contact calls.
I say that because he was back in the woods forever and when I called, he came looking. Other than that, I have seen zero activity that would indicate the rut is taking place. The bucks are ready, I don't see the does being in. (I'm hunting/guiding Kurt) |

The buck I shot yesterday came into DOC's scent. Circled downwind of it and came straight in. Kept his attention long enough to thread an arrow through him.

I was hunting with Rob/PA a couple weeks ago and grunted in (I have the same River Valley flute;)) a really nice 8 pointer from 100 yds away who was leaving before I grunted. It didn't have a storybook ending.....but he got to within 23 yds. before not seeing the buck making the grunts and buggering out.

I'm seeing deer without using much of anything. Just a scent drag into my stand and a couple wicks. But I don't feel that had any effect of what I've seen. The deer seemed disinterested in them.

I have yet to actually have a deer come in to my calls or scents but I have been seeing plenty of pre-rut activity over the last two weeks or so. Lots of bucks chasing does and scrape activity really picked over the last week.
Yesterday was a bust though.:( |

The buck I shot on Nov. 1st was rubbing trees and made a scrape as he came through. One turn of the "can" call, and hespun aroundand came right to me.

Exactly like Rob said...i havent witnessed any activity that would lead me to believe its on. Bucks are ready but the doe's are not.

I have been doing a little rattling and using my can call, with no luck, im hoping that it changes tomorrow though, since im off the rest of the week... !!!!!!!

I've had success grunting bucks in since the 3rd week of October. And had success with some James Valley scent since the 28th of Oct. Bucks have responded to my bleats since Last Wednesday(Oct. 31st). I witnessed chasing last Tues, Wed, and Thurs - nothing Friday or Saturday - but started back up this past Monday.
I got lucky on Monday w/ a 7pt. Was back out this morning just observing and bucks are still chasing! |

who isn't killing bucks in PA I have seen some bucks harassing does, but I have also seen piles of does out in the fields not being bothered. It doesn't seem to have kicked in full swing yet. I think a few does have gone off early, but that's it. I did have a 2.5 year old 6 respond to some grunts and doe bleats 2 Saturdays ago, but that's it for calling response. |

I grunted in the buck I shot on the 31st. He also walked over toward my scent canister which was filled with Bob Kirschner's Rutting Type lure

I've rattled in more bucks this year than ever. Also have had good action over my mock scrapes with active scrape in them. Im in NW PA, Erie county.

The can call or grunts haven't done much for me the past few days. It has been really windy though so I'm not sure how far the sounds are able to carry in the woods. I turned the can over a few times at a six point on Monday just to get his reaction. He worked a scrape and went on his way.

I called in this little 7pt with the Can on Oct 20th. I have good results when I use the Can. Killed him just before dark, and it was too warm out, so I had to butcher him quickly. This was the only pic I could get of him.

Had a wide 8 with a white blaze on his nose about 45 yards out, that was walking away. Hit the can....looked but kept walking. Hit the grunt tube.....twitched ears and kept walking.
A small 6 that was with him came directly under my stand. Like always for me...the calls were ineffective, except to possibly give my location away. |

Called in two bucks for Kurt tonight, both not legal. I heard a deer back in the woods, so I thought and called, grunt and contact and a spike came running from over 200 yards across a field.. I let him go, called him back twice...LOL
Moments later I spot a buck about 300 yards down a wood line, called to him, he ran into us, 18 yards, a 2 x 1 3 point....a future Rob buck...Lmao...I said to Kurt, there's my buck in 2 years. [8D] |
