Matt & Greg's Excellent Adventure, Day 3... BDD!
Is there a better sight to bowhunters than blood in the back of a truck bed?
Greg / MO made sure Matt's spotless truck wouldn't stay too pristine today when he nailed this old matriarch at 36 yards with the Diamond Marquis. Pictures of good friends standing in corn fields are ok, but I think they're better when a nice mature animal is in the picture with them. And after all... we need some kill photos to start documenting the years in "Matt's Sweet Suite"... as Matt calls our guest quarters in the lower level of our house where he stays for a week every year.
After watching a couple small bucks saunter past, I heard this doe followed closely by her yearling coming out of the thicket behind me. I watched her take almost an hour to make it from my 2 o'clock position 30 yards to my right, to 10 o'clock at 15 yards to my left. I was in a pretty low set, and I could actually hear her sniffing and testing the air as she was directly under me. She glanced my way once, but never head-bobbed or even stared more than a second.
I was just ready to drop the hammer on her when I could faintly hear the tell-tale "tch... tchh, tchh.." of halting footsteps coming from the direction they had just come from. I held off shooting the gimme shot and focused my attention behind her, expecting to see Mr. Big coming. Instead Mr. Squirrel came along, sealing the doe's fate.
The rest of the week looks great for us; we hung a couple stands in my favorite honey hole that we've been saving for the cold front, which is supposed to move in tonight.
Hopefully, we'll be back with good news soon!

Congrats on getting a very nice doe Greg. Wish you guys luck the remainder of the week with the front blowing through.
Wait... how is it that Greg is taller than Matt when they are kneeling?

Great job Greg! Sounds like you two are having a blast, hope the rest of Matt's stay produces some more quality deer on the ground! Good luck!
