Last week he took a nice 11 pt buck with the irregular antler on the right side, (posted it with pictures last week), and last night he took this nice10 pt.buck. He has been blessed this season and now that he has filled his buck tags,he wants toconcentrate on our 12 year old niece, she just passed her hunter safety course, and our son who is away at college but is chomping at the bit to get home and hunt this coming weekend. It's all about the kids today in this great sport that we have. Our son is a little concerned though that maybe dad isn't leaving any for him, but we told him dad is saving the biggest for him. Looking forward to gettingour son on video, now that dad has filled his tags. He hadn't even planned to hunt the stand he took this buck from. He got to the property intending to hunt another area, low and behold, the farmer had pipes running thru the field spreading manure. He had to drive out of the field and around the "country corner" and come in from a different road. This left that stand as the only choice. He had a little 6 pt. come in and some time later a doe. This 10 pt was hot on her trail, but kept putting himself in a "non shooting" position. Isn't it funny how they know to do that. When he got into the lane at 25 yards, Ken took the shot. He heard a loud "thwack", the deer took off about 20 yards and stopped, looked around and took off again. At this point when he stopped, all Ken could see was the head and neck, so he didn't even know if he shot him. After 5 minutes he heard a bunch of crashing around and nothing. He called me said he was coming home for dinner and would go back afterwards. We headed back out about 3 hours later, went to were he shot him, walked to where he last saw him and there he was, piled up against a tree not 35 yards from the stand, with the arrow broken off inside. Double lung and liver shot. I wish all of you as successful a season as he has had. Looking forward to hearing all of your stories and seeing the pics. |
