This morning was 26th trip to the woods. It produced 8 sightings which brought me over the 100 deer mark for the season. THis new farm has been awesome to me. I see 4 deer by 7:15, 3 of them hung around at about 70ish yards. They finally moved off, and I got down a little on the early side, about 8:30. I go to my favorite spot and stalk spot to see if I can make anything happen. There wasn't anything there. We decided to cricle around and check another spot near my stand. We get almos there and a few deer run off. We decided to split up and see if one of us can get a shot. I slowly make my way through the weeds and I happen to look up in the woods and I spot a couple moving up through there. I keep inching closer, they are about 40yds away now, and I look over to my left and there was a small 1.5yr old doe standing at about 70yds. I freeze, figuring its all over. I reach into my right pocket because it was shielded with the weeds, and grab my can call. I turn it over twice and put it back into my pocket, almost instantaneously, the deer turns my way and starts sprinting my way, doesn't have a clue I'm there. I draw as fast as I can, because her path was blocked by a tree. She appears from behind the tree still sprinting, shes at about 30yds now, she spots me now, and throws the brakes on. Staring at me at 25yards I bury the 20yd pin 1/2 way up her body. I pull the trigger only to see something straight out of the matrix, she hits the deck as fast as she can. It was pretty much the split second I hit my release. I know I know, don't shoot at an alert deer, but at 25yds, bow shooting almost 290fps, I didn't think she could possibly duck that arrow. To tell you the truth I was I got a little antsy when she was running full force at me. Just a "different" encounter, I'm still a little upset I botched the shot, but I did everything I knew to do, the shot was headed perfect, only to see the deer literally hit the dirt.
Being on eye level with a deer like that and them not knowing you are there is uncomparable to stand hunting. It's just a whole different rush for me.

now have a doe snort from behind you at 2-3 yards while your waitin for the sun to rise in the turkey woods, lol.
i never even knew she was there until i hit the owl call, and got a response i wasnt expecting from an uncomfortably close distance.she was practically brushing up against the tree i was sitting against.
i think i felt her breath on my neck! lol

i had a doe and her two from this year come within 2 yards from the tree i was sittin under this mornin... never even had a chance to raise my bow, but the experience was well worth it, i too agree that see a deer that close at eye level is a whole different story...

I LOVE to stalk. It is the coolest experience stalking through grass looking for a deer you know is there and then they lift their head up and you have to out stare them for 5 minutes...legs get to shaking and all you think about is " PUT YOUR #%#^ head down you stupid deer!" Up until this year I have only gun hunted. I dont know if I will trystalking with a bow due to the cover that I hunt, but I might have to if the deer dont start cooperating with me.

I'm with Predator; that's an awesome experience.
I hunted from the ground all the time, till I got my climber 5 years ago. I've shot 2 from the ground, one at12-yards and one at15 feet. And I've missed a couple at those distances (I had a REAL bad problem withbuckfever [:@]) . It's definetly agreat experience.

I have to hunt on the ground because I don't like heights.... not afraid to say it either... your boy king is a puss 3 feet off the ground.
So, I hang in tall grasses and willows and shadows and use my 13 years of woods experience to be absolutely deadly.
