rut is hit and miss in SE IOWA

Well guys Ive seen alot of nice bucks taken here in Iowa already but I havent had anything nice come in. (except the one the other day that was never found[:'(]) Ive been watching alot of smaller bucks lately and still havent seen any chasing. I talked to the owner of the proshop I go to and he said its been pretty spotty right now. I figure by tuesday most areas should kick into gear and the chase will be on. I had a small 4 pt come in last night and walk under my stand and bed down in the middle of a picked cornfield 38 yds away. No does entered the field while I was there, but I had seen 2 the day before and no bucks with them. Is rut in full swing where you are or are you in the same boat I am where everyones tagging nice ones and youre not even seeing them? I know theres some good bucks around and Im just waiting for them to chase the does in the field, I keep telling myself be patient, dont run them out of the area by stomping through the woods. I think I may hunt the next county north, they seem to be rutting well up there and I havent hunted up there for about 2 weeks now. We'll see what happens Tuesday.

RE: rut is hit and miss in SE IOWA

I saw more rutting actionthe 3rd week than I did last week. Iwas hunting in SW Iowa and I think the full moon had them moving less during the day. I did kill a 12pt on Monday night; shot him right after he worked a ground scrape from a ground blind. I'm sure the next week or 2 will bekiller. Unfortunatley for me I have to go back to work tomorrow. Good luck to ya.
