RE: Pa rut
She came down and met him. She was with a button buck and they watched me for over an hour. He came in ran up to her, she came down and met him. He chased her for abit (like in a big circle). His neck was swelled up. She trotted off up the hill and he went after her. The button buck just stood there. That was kinda funny. But yeah your right they might not be ready.

Its hit here in mckean county.. I had the "liberty" of watching a big 10 point run by me twice today.. saw him around 930 in the AM and thought my chances to see him again were done, but then saw him come sprinting back through trailing a doe around 2 PM.. Then I watched 2 other bucks come and follow the same path that the 10 point chased the doe through.. I passed up a decent 6/smallish 8.. not sure.. it may have had small brows.. couldnt tell.. After seeing the monster though, i couldnt take that guy.. I'm sure I can see this deer again.. first time hunting this area this year and i see him twice.. Good day, but I'm bumming a bit.. I shoulda had this guy...

RE: Pa rut
Clearfield Co. is slow, no movement during the day at all.
I'm moving a stand today and will do some speed scouting to prepare for this week. Last night SHOULD have been good , but no movement. |
RE: Pa rut
Friday and Saturday I hunted a new farm. Scrapes and rubs everyware but nothing but squirles to keep me company. However, last Wednesdayand Thursday spikes and forks were chasing the girlsaround. I watched one poorfork tine try numerous times to mount a doe. She would let get up and then she would just walk out from under him. What a tease, I felt sorry for the little guy. Other than that I've not seen any big boys dogging the girls,YET.

Hunted Wed. night through Sat. Saw bucks every time out. A total of 5 or 6 different but all small. Forks, spikes and one barley legal small 3 pointer. 3 on one side and the right side completly broken off. Passed on that shot @ 10 yds broad side and looking away. May be regreating that decision. Was able to rattle in the 3 pointer and a fork on Wed evening. The fork came looking for a fight [:@]. He was 20 yds out looking my direction and drooling like mad. Both rubbed and make scrapes befor leaving. Does have been thin but I have seen a few.

RE: Pa rut
Last Saturday I had a spike chasing a doe all around my stand and saw a decent 6 point that stunk so bad I smelled him before I saw him. Then on Tuesday I had a big boy chase a doe past my stand and couldn't get them to stop for nothing.[:@] It looks like they're chasing good, at least in SE PA.

RE: Pa rut
Here in Jersey, it's been slow where I hunt. Have seen plenty of does, 6 small bucks, and no shooters of any kind. There's a 3 point per side limit in my zone , so I have to be choosy on the smaller guys. Want them to grow anyway!
I have not seen any rutting action. Watched a 5 ptr. make a scrape about 75 yds from my tree on Thursday and a few does straggled by between 8 and 9:30 am. No evening action at all! Thinking I might be busted w/o knowing it, I moved my stand yesterday and hunted from 3pm to dark. Saw 3 does at 5:45 pm. Waited to see if Mr. Bones would follow, NADA!!! Where's the action??? I can shoot meat anytime. I'd like to score on a decent rut buck. Tried rattling, grunting, " The Can ", some scent, and yet, nothing is working. I've been putting in some serous time and only shot one doe. Any of you seasoned veterans got a suggestion for a frustrated Jersey boy??? |
