First Bow Buck

Hey Everybody,

I just found this great tool (bored at work) and figured I would share my first bow buck story with some fellow enthusiasts.

I have been hunting for 5 years on and off due to land usage and time constraints. Last year me and my buddy got out early and starting our food plots. This year was going to be different!! We worked our butts off in the woods to get these plots going and bring the deer in. Well, all that work was almost completely destroyed by the farmer that leases the land! He took some strange turns (almost looked like on purpose) when they were picking the beans and tore up almost half of our front field! Our back field was flooded out because we didn't think first. I was so frustrated and thought that we wouldn't see much this year. I was wrong!

First week of the rut and I was on vacation for some serious in the woods time. I was seeing does and little bucks everyday, but I couldn't seem to find that big guy. Well, on the third afternoon out he found me and my scrape. Ihad just seen a big doe about 60yards out and it was getting close to dark, so I gave her a couple can turns. To my surprise, she bolted likeI was throwing arrows at her. I thought my night was over and then thereshe was again (or so I thought). Ituned that can over two more times and to my surprise, his head came out from behind a tree! There went the heartbeat and shaking! He walked right down the doe trail and stopped over my scrape andscent pad! Icould not believe it! Double lung at about 12-15 yards and he dropped right outside the woods for me. I was shaking so bad that I had to put my bow down and sit for a while. By no means is he a monster, but I am proud to have him on the wall as my first buck!

Sorry for being so long winded, but I love telling that story! I lost the woods I used to hunt to a housing development that has never gone in. I was just able to pick my bow back up for private land hunting last year. I have to cross the border and pay an arm and a leg, but it is worth it!

I have better pics, but they are too large to upload.

Thanks man!

I am in IL, but I migrate to IN for hunting. One of my employees/buddies owns land out there. Little patch of woods good enough for 1 or 2 people. Surrounded by farm fields and other woods.

I had some great property in IL, but a development company bought it and they won't let us back out there. Even though nobody is using the land. I missed a 14 point buck about 4 years ago out there and I kick myself to this day.

I am actually heading out (half day of work) for a mid day to dusk hunt! Anybody had any luck with mid day rattling and calling?

Shane,

There is one pic attached at the bottom of the posting. The others are too large.
