hang on stands
 

ok guys i been hunting now for about 10 years and only out of ladder stands, i just cant bring my self to use a hang on stand, call me a pansy but the jsut dont seem as trusting as a ladder stand i have a hang on but an very timid to use it looking for some words of encouragement or the pros of using a hang on opposed to a ladder stand.

Concealment!!!! CONCEALMENT!!! Concealment!!!

You can put them in any tree. Doesn't have to be straight. You don't have to cut the low limbs to hang it.

CONCEALMENT!!!

They can be used as a "mobile" stand and moved from location to location. Have I mentioned concealment?

Personally, I feel safer in a lock on than I do a ladder stand. I useratchet straps and a chain.

Once again...concealment.

The only negative Ican think of is that most of them aren't stands that you want to sit in all day long.

You can get the bigger ones like the SSLounger. That thing is like a Lazy Boy!!!! ILOVE MINE!!!.....

I want to try one of the Melinum stands. They are expensive though.

I would never use anything but a hang-on since I've switched a few years ago. Gorilla makes some great one's. With arm and foot rests, I'm good to go all day. We also use 2 ratchet straps, pull them tight. Then wefold the platform up, then drop it back down. This "sets" the stand to the tree.

Man, we have ours set up so well, it's hard to find in the middle of the day! Limbs low, limbs high, but nice shooting lanes right in the middle.

I was in your position two years ago, I would only hunt in ladder stands or permenant stands. I now have 4 hang ons. They are the cheap ones and they work just fine. Some only come with the chains. I add ratchet straps for added safety and always use a harness. I have enjoyed the mobility and concealment to no ends. Once you start you won't go back. I am not saying that I don't get in a ladder stand or a fixed one, but its nice to have options.

The same goes for me. I love hang ons. Versatility and concealment. Just to remind me did they mention concealment.

Yep everyone's pretty much said it but I'll say it too. Definetly the concealment is great. Most hang ons are really very solid especially the one's like Gorilla's and the others with larger platforms. I am using the Lone Wolf Alpha Assault (the smallest lone wolf makes) and its awesome. It really blends well in the tree. I was kinda timid at first with this stand because it was so small, I don't know the exact dimensions of the top of my head right now but it's tiny. I prefer it though, most probably would like something a little bigger. Anyway the use of a good safety harness helps a lot I think. It gives you that feeling of security. I honesty never cared for wearing one, but I do now with this stand and it makes it seem so much better.

Maybe I should I start using hang ons, my climber took a healthy two foot drop on me this morning, so much for scent concelment![&o]

Yeah that's one of the things about climbers that I don't like. I don't like how unstable they feel. I always have that thought in the back of my mind that the top could move or drop by bumping when I stand up on a deer. It happened to me before when I was trying out my uncles climber.
