My dad had the day off yesterday from work so he went hunting and arrowed a nice buck. He said the shot felt good and after the shot he was just waiting for the buck to drop. He said he heard a loud crack when the arrow hit the deer and is wondering if he may have hit the shoulder blade. He never found the arrow but he found good blood for a long ways untill about 200yrds later when it slowed down untill he couldnt even find a drop. He combed the area pretty good he said but decided to back off just in case. He is going to try and find it after work if he dosnt have to work late. I am at my college dorm right now or I would be out there looking for it. I am planning on looking for it tomorrow afternoon if my dad doesnt get a chance to look tonight. What do you think about the situation?

I hope he didnt push it. If he didnt push it, he will probably find it. If he did, it could be in the next county. He could have hit the shoulder blade, but if he was using a good broadhead, it should have sliced through. He might have hit the humerus. In that case, no telling.

Yeah, we would need some more info....penetration? did he see the arrow in the deer?

If it did hit shoulder and didn't penetrate, I imagine he would have been able to see if the arrow was still in the deer or not.

I arrowed a nice buck a few years ago, 40yd shot, heard a loud 'crack' and could see the majority of the arrow in the animal as he bolted off. I pushed him as I was pretty inexperienced at the time, and followed great blood for about 3/4 of a mile and never found him...

The blood was only on one side of the trail the deer was following and when it went through some weeds the blood was smeared on the weeds only on one side, meaning that it probably wasnt a pass through since there isnt blood on both sides.
