Rob, I bought that coat in 1986 and started using it for the 1987 season. I wear it for nothing but hunting. It goes back in the storage bag after each season. I usually only wear it during colder weather. It was 39 that morning so I wore it!

Now it's my lucky coat!

WOW, congrats, the mass is awesome. that rocks! Monster! Stud! I love big framed massive bucks!!!

I REALLY hope many people have learned something from your experiance when you posted it on here. MANY were thinking you should go right after him(the same day). Hopefully they now realize how foolish that would have been. If in doubt WAIT! If there was a less skilled hunter than Greg who made that hit, there is a good chance we would not be looking atthat deerright now.

I may have missed it in the 19 pages, but how long did you let it sit out there and how long do you think it was dead before you found it?

Thank you guys for all of your replies. You don't know how bad I wanted to go out and look for him yesterday afternoon. But I stuck to my guns. Plus I stayed away from any of my buds that I figured might be a little gung-ho.;)It paid off, no fuss no muss.

I still can't believe the size of him! I just quickly put a tape to him and was kind of shocked. Came up with 168 7/8 gross with a 2 1/8 sticker = 171" of horn!!

I was way off on the main beam lengths, I guessed 23" when actual is 27". He should net in the mid-150s as an 8 pointer! Pretty cool. I've guessed him to be about 6 1/2.

Check this out, I did see this buck last year. I almost got a shot at him on Dec.5th. I wrote about it this forum but I'm no good with the search feature. Here's a couple of notes from last years hunts.

54) 11/25/06 5 Fawns, 3 Does, 1 1/2 spike, 1 1/2 4 pt., 4 1/2 (5x3) and 5 1/2+ 10 pt (9 pt w/sticker on g-2) Tall stand, SW wind.** **

58) 12/5/06 2 does, 4 fawns and the 160" 9 pt. South stand, SSW wind. **

Incidentally, I shot him from the South stand listed above. Kinda neat.

I'll rescore him when I get the antlers back from the taxi in a couple of days to get a more accurate score.

You are one lucky sole to have access to places that harbor the genetics that allow you to use and show your skills as a bow hunter to take such awesome animals. To consistently take animals of this size like you do speaks volumes of your skill and knowledge. I tip my hat to you, you are one awesome bow hunter. Congratulations;).
