Interesting news today .......

My taxidermist just called and informed me, I had the stretch buck I killed a week ago mis-aged! He said by his teeth he is atleast, 8 years old, more like 9 or 10. So when, I first found him, he was at least 5.Wow, maybe, that explains the little difference in his rack this year, than sheds I picked up from 05.

There is a picture of him in the scorecard Mauser, page 3.. His sheds and story are in my latest field HNIJournal which has also been rotating through the spotlight story...on the main page...or....Just click on my link below my signature here... That will pull up my journals....Hisstory istitled "BackintheSaddle Again" shed pix are in there and trail camera pic of him..I didnt post any video of him but have about 10-15 minutes of him..

When I first moved to my new home 3 years ago, I found this buck in the summer, videoed him and figured just by looking him over he was 3.5. (he had me fooled, he looked long young and very healthy then) Then I found his sheds a set... over 2 shed seasons.. so one my first year living there andthe otherside the next year as was evident by the second sheds conditionasit had laid in the woods a year..(the second side) anyway then I hunted him two seasons ...and figured forsure he was 5.5 this year....

WOW was I shocked when my Taxi told me today he was atleast 8...more like 9 or 10... dang.. oldest buck I have ever killed... My second being a 7.5 year old ..

That is one heck of a story man. I bet it is truly an honor to take an animal that old. Maybe one of these days I'll be as fortunate. Congrats!

Congrats on a nice mature deer.

Send the jaw bone in and get it checked to know for sure what the age is.All you can get from teeth is an educated guess.

He may very well be that old but he may be closer to what you had him aged as well.

A deer's diet can have an affect on their teeth so if you want to know for sure, send it in to the state and have them check it for you.It used to be free here in Ky and not sure if it still is or not.

Tfox, good points. The last one I had aged, I took to my local biologist here. Hmmmmmm I wonder if he sent it off to a lab? I will have to call and ask him. He had it for about a month..I never did ask, I was busy still hunting that season and kind of forgot about and then he called me and told me and I picked the jaw bone back up. Anyway..thanks..I will havemy taxisave the jaw off of this buck....so I can do just that

Hey guys, I just want to add.. I in no way was trying to bring attention to my deer or my story..I sure hope this didnt come across this way ..and if It did, I apologize and did not intend it too.....

Today,it just kind of shocked me when they told me.....kind of caught me off guard etc..and wanted to share the info with you guys....

T-fox, I think your exactly right..if I really want to know forsure...then I need to get it checked..

I guess the only accurate way to determine age is to have a tooth cross-sectioned, then aged. I once took the jaw of a 140", 190 lb field dressed buck, along with the rack to our local whitetail DNR biologist and had him tell me that it was a 2 1/2 or even a 1 1/2!!!!!![:-]

I stopped doing that.[>:]
