Turkey question
Ok, so I go to my blind intent on venison, but turkey season is in, as well, in Western NY. Yesterday, I was sitting there quietly when I see something out of the corner of my eye. As I shift my attention to the left, I see four turkeys come walking past my blind. They milled about a bit, but eventually got within ten yards of the blind. I have hunted turkey with a shotgun for years, so I know about head shots, but if I chose to use a bow, where to you aim?
Also, tonight I stayed in the house with my kids. It was windy and raining / sleeting off and on. I went out to check on the goats and wouldn't you know it,two nice sized doe standing right next to my blind. I should know by now, any weather is good hunting weather.

RE: Turkey question
the vitals (heart and lungs)on a turkey are not much bigger than the head...... i always ain at the head but make sure they are a bit alerted or their head is moving.... broad side aim at the eye....... look at it this way if you miss you miss cleanly .... if you miss a vital then ther is very very little blood to follow.... i know it sounds tough but do it and see what i mean... by the way the heads up alert thing came form experience..... i tried to hit his head whild he was feeding faceing me and cut one of his toes off..... (do you call them toes?) what ever you decide do try turkey with a bow.... its a super chalenge....

RE: Turkey question
drop tine i completely agree with you
if you miss the spine when you aim for the neck/head then they may get away, but if you aim for the center of the body you have their wings pinned and thus they cannot go very far.
i am 14 and i have killed 7 turkeys
all in missouri
my dad has killed over 70

RE: Turkey question
with a bow, aim where the beard attaches on the chest, on the side aim where the wings attach, dont get to far forward or you will get nothing but breast. from the rear, the middle of the back. head shots with a bow are risky unless your using gobbler guilitines. i like expandables, they sometimes stay with the bird, keeping them at bay.
