Any one seeing any mountain lions in the midwest??
my dad a couple years ago was muzzleloader hunting in illinois, right across the river from STL, and he saw mountain lion, a huge one, the funny thing is he ended up killing a 130" 9 pointer a little later in the morning :P

I have seen one in IL. in the several years of bowhunting. They are not common by any standards, but they do exist;)

There must be hundreds or thousands of them in Kentucky. Every time the subject comes up on the Ky hunting forums everyone and their daddy has seen one as well as several black panthers. I'm afraid to walk to my deer stand in the dark anymore.

this is about the midwest |
RE: Any one seeing any mountain lions in the midwest??
You guys must be seeing "feral cats", not mountain lions. I believe the Wisconsin and Michigan DNR says that "there aren't any mountain lion/cougar in this area" and we know they'd NEVER lie tous right? Now excuse me, I have to get back to wondering what I'mdoing wrong becauseI'monly seeing about one deer per five huntsin my Earn-a-Buck unit in this severlyoverpopulated state. Thank you.

RE: Any one seeing any mountain lions in the midwest??
haha thats crazy
cause feral cats are as tall as mountain lions and as heavy my dad watched it for about ten minutes in his stand and that sucks with the one deer in an earn a buck area |
RE: Any one seeing any mountain lions in the midwest??
i dont hunt the midwest but my wife saw one here in Tx the first weekend I ever got her to deer hunt with me a couple years back.... She hasn't been back since.
|
RE: Any one seeing any mountain lions in the midwest??
ya i bet sightings have ruined other people that have seen them in an area that they hunt, even if its a good area
|
RE: Any one seeing any mountain lions in the midwest??
Ive seen one near Warrensburg, Missouri last year. i saw him crossing a field into some timber. funny thing is, when we saw the landowner he said "if you see a mountain lion let me know, cause he killed one of my ponies." We didnt mention a thing to him about it until he mentioned it. Me and my buddy looked at each other like "oh s*^%".
Another friend of mine caught one on his video camera, sent it in to the MDC, and they said "all we can say is it is not a house cat." |
RE: Any one seeing any mountain lions in the midwest??
haha
but your name would drive my dad and brother crazy my dad is guiding at the best farm in missouri, i swear all day you have drake mallards floating 10 yards in front of the blind my dad will hunt there about 40-50 days this year the farm borders otter slough conservation area and this farm is all cypress, the dry part is some of the best deer hunting around too the ducks love the flooded cypress there though |

RE: Any one seeing any mountain lions in the midwest??
Menominee County, MI (U.P.) sighting. Neighbor got a late start for an evening hunt and decided to do some scouting over a small clover plot behind his farmhouse (100 yards from back door). Afterviewing a few skittish does approaching the clover, he noticed movement on an inside corner andglassed (what he thought to be) a bedded doe moving its head in the shadows. Watching intermittently for approx 10 minutes, the animal stood-up and worked its way into the corner of the field. In the failing light, he thought to himself that it was a large wolf, until it turned broadside and he saw its long tail. He proceeded to glass the cat as it stalked for another 20-30 yards before shooting after a doe. When questioned directly whether it was a bobcat, etc he confidently pointed to the full-body mount of a Colorado lion (on our cedar rafter) and simply stated, "no one will convine me otherwise - that is exactly what I saw!" Good enough for me.

I haven't seen one, but I believe I heard one while putting up my stand at 5:30 am a few weeks ago (alone, with only a bow
) in the mountains of Virginia (Rockingham County). Sounded likeit was about 40 or 50 yards ahead of me in the dark. Screamed so loud it almost hurt my ears, which is why I think it was a mountian lion (and, yes, I know a coyote when I hear one...I hear them almost every timeI hunt that mountain). Scared the heck out of me, but I went ahead and hunted the stand all day. Only saw two deer all day in that stand[&:]. I know two other people who have seen a mountain lion on this same mountain. One of em ran alll the way down the mountain when he heard it:D! |
