Question
I went hunting last evening and got busted by a deer(never got a good look at it) that was still about 80yds. away, through brush. My buddy was done WAY before me, he got cold.
He called me last night to tell me that Jeff, my buddy/his brother in law, was willing to take me to one of his spots. This is a 5acre lot with TONS of deer, almost every deer there is a doe. He says that on any given day he could go and see a dozen does. He said he could go and is dang near garenteed a shot at a doe. I got a doe tag and a buck tag left and well I want to kill a deer with my bow, it would be my first. I dont know if I want to go or not. I have worked all year to get one with my bow and, well, I aint done it yet and this could very well be my last time out this year. Im 15, got to be 16 to go by yourself. I dont know if Im feeling like this is a canned hunt or what but these are all free ranging wild deer and they are so thick I really feel bad for them. I do want more meat but if Im 99% sure ill have a shot at a deer... I dont know. I just wanted to see yalls opinion, would you go??? "A Country Boy Can Survive" </IMG> |
RE: Question
Fear not, if these animals are not in a pen, there is never a garuantee when it comes to bowhunting whitetails. If the numbers are high, they need thinned out anyway so you'll be doing the herd a favor as well. Just because the numbers are high in an area and you think it's a no brainer to take one, it doens't make it a canned hunt or unethical. Why not take advantage of a good opportunity. You'll never forget the first deer with a bow....get out there and good luck.

RE: Question
you mean you are not there yet. i would jump all over it. the sure shot hunt trips i have went on, rarely do i get a shot. so do not go expecting anything.

RE: Question
I agree completely......go.
Simply because there are "tons" of deer in an area, even a small area, there are no guarentees of sucess....you'll still have to do everything just right to make the connection. It does sound like the nunbers could stand to be thinned a little. It's not the numbers of deer, or the size of the area hunted, or even if the conditions are perfect........a hunt, any hunt, is only as good as you make it. Make every one a memory that you'll cherish forever. Best of luck!!! |
RE: Question
Yep, get out there. Just think, these deer have their sense of smell, ears, good eye sight (when it comes to movement), and above all that, that special sense they have where they know something isn't right. Get out there, it is no different than any other hunt, it is just a better area.

RE: Question
You have been hunting all season and haven't killed one yrt, right. Your buddy is being nice enough t o invite you to go somewhere that holds alot of wild deer, go shoot one,it's not close to being a canned hunt.

RE: Question
....:) So ya think its going to be easy eh!... like shootin fish in a barrel, a cake walk, a slam dunk, simple, a done deal!? I wouldn't want to put any pressure on you <img src=icon_smile_evil.gif border=0 align=middle> but just try and get a shot off with a dozen does under your stand! Like anything else its tough to win when your out numbered <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>.
All kidding aside the experience would be good for you. Get your skinny little bow huntin butt over there and see what happens. Besides for a lot of us the season is closed and were just dying to hear some more huntin stories! <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle> |
RE: Question
Hi,
You might as well go,but don't be surprised if you don't see anything.Been there done that. |
RE: Question
Well, I was gonna go anyways but now I feel better about it. Thanks. Its now 2:45 and I havent heard from them so I might not be going tonight but I should end up there 30 FEET up a tree. The stand I would be in is 30 feet up a freakin tree. There is a hill so if your not up that high then as they come in they would be eye to eye with ya at about 30-40yds. This is all what ive heard, I aint went yet....ever. I will let you know how I do when I go.
Thanks yall:) p.s. Sometimes I just need some sence knocked into me<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> "A Country Boy Can Survive" </IMG> |
RE: Question
I agree with everyone else. By all means, go for it!! I learned the hard way this year that there are no guarantees in bowhunting, other than frustration. I had a situation similar to yours - got permission to hunt a small area with lots of deer. Sounds good but it is very difficult to get a shot off when you have 20+ eyes looking at you. The deer certainly won't be as stupid as one may think. Good Luck on your hunt!
