Stabalizer Thoughts
Ok, I'm probably giving away my million dollar idea here.
A stabalizer with a small gyroscope in it. Even with a small battery pack to power it you could probably make one lighter than current stabalizers with much more benefit. You'd be using rotational inertia. |

huh?

RE: Stabalizer Thoughts
I have never seen a gyro that didn't make some noise when operating. IF you can make it dead quiet, it might help, but I think making it small AND quiet will also make it $$$$$!

...conservation of angular momentum...would hold the bow steady. Hmph. Interesting thought. Not sure if it would make a noticeable difference or not. I smell what you're cooking though.
Like mcouey said - good luck getting something with enough mass to spin that fast without making a sound... That would be the first big hurdle. |
RE: Stabalizer Thoughts
Seems like a good idea though consider one thing. Some of us use our stabalizers to balance the bow. (ie when you fire the bow it tilts forward not back.) Not sure if I'm using the right terminology.
Interesting! Tom |
RE: Stabalizer Thoughts
Definitely an interesting thought. One of the more original I've heard in a long time.
I would only be concerned with the amount of energy needed to spin a small mass (considering practicality) fast enough to stabilize a system as large as a bow. Great thought though! |
RE: Stabalizer Thoughts
Do you think magnets would get it to turn with little to no noise.

I just ran down to the patent office and patented a "gyroscope stabilizer".:)I think it's going to be a big hit this year($$$)...:D J/k;) |
RE: Stabalizer Thoughts
lets dumb things down a notch -
1. i like chocolate chip cookies 2. and, what is a gyroscope |
RE: Stabalizer Thoughts
They are actually making them for large boats now. Company not to far from reading is making them. Keeps the boat on yachts small cruise ships etc from rocking nearly at all. BUT!!!! These are quite large like the size of a 50 gallon drum or bigger. Its a thought but I cant see them not making any noise or being small enough. But I like where your head is at :) Competition shooters might like......they shouldnt care much about the noise.

RE: Stabalizer Thoughts
Correct me if im wrong. But what your talking about is a capsol with a small ball or enlongated object inside, that spins in a direction and manner that will actually neutralize any motion of the larger object/vessel it is mounted on. Correct. These are what they are making near me. They are Large steel ball with smaller balls in side that, approx the size of say basketballs that spin a certain direction that stops the boat from rocking.

RE: Stabalizer Thoughts
As bad as my heart gets pumping when the BIG One steps out and the shakes set in, I don't think there's a gyro big enough to steady mine...lol

i like it. i say we try and make it happen. I might just try to throw one together in my free time, so when deer season is over lol

RE: Stabalizer Thoughts
