g/f has lime

not sure if you guys remember, but back in july or so i told of when i went to elk neck state park (in maryland) and got infested with ticks, alot of then. it took us like 3 weeks to rid ourself of them. i thought i was cool, but my gf just told me she has lime. she went to ER last night bc she didnt feel well. im guessing ill have it now as well. kinda of sucks. i think i was told once you have it you never lose it, is that correct? it was those lil tiny ticks. this sucks lol. i dont feel any symptoms and she said she didnt feel good, but i dont see how i wouldnt have it - walked thru same stuff with same ticks as her.

You say Lime, Here it's called Lymes Disease...and yeah, it really sucks..I hope you caught it early, you'll/she'll be fine. Just listen to the docs.

If I had a lime, I'd go get some tequila. Lymes Disease is a different story.

Don't underestimate lyme decease. I have a couple Buds here in MA that can hardly walk they have been so crippled up by it.
One of them had a fatal "accident" at the gunclub last spring. He shot a ram rod thru his chest. It went down as an accident so at least his family got some insurance.
The other guys got Bells palsy or something from it. His face just hangs of him like he had a stroke.
TAKE CARE OF IT EARLY!!!!!!!!!and you will be fine.

My little sister (9) had it last year, she popped some pills and was fine in no time. Good luck.

Duhhhhhh... how's that. You find one you should shed and inspect and all that. If you're in known tick country you should do it even if you don't find any. I can see it maybe taking a few hours from park to find you have them, but certainly before I went to bed that night. WEEKS???? You can catch about the worst thing in the world from a hooker in Mexico and not take 3 weeks to get rid of it. At least that's what my buddy told me. I wouldn't know.

You know Davidmil, your right, something is not adding up here.

One, I doubt there is an ER in the country that could diagnose Lymes Disease, that takes blood work etc and not something done in an ER....at least none around here.

I forget the threads but are you "geterdun1, 2, 3" sure it wasn't chiggers...

why would i lie about something like this? no it was ticks. i plucked off as many as i could in the 1st day, but one would pop up here one there. lol why would i lie about this? thats funny. sorry i brought it up

Sorry to hear about that. I remember when you posted that thread because I got into a "nest" of ticks myself. I had a rash on my arm a week afterwards and went to the doctor. He didn't think it was Lyme but gave me antibiotics anyway. It was not the bullseye rash. Did you or your GF get a "bullseye" rash?

RE: g/f has lime

Not saying you lied about her having lime "Disease". Just that you should have been a little more competent at checking yourselves. If you had enough ticks around that it took 3 weeks somethings wrong. Usually they're there for no more than an hour or two or overnight and they're full and drop off. I'm with Rob. She may have caught Lime Disease alright, but the 3 week fumigation was NOT ticks, probably chiggers.

trouble is the little muthas get in your truck, house, and everywhere else when you get into a mess of them like they did. It don't take much for one to find you a week or so later that's been waiting to ambush you again once you get back in your vehicle.

Ticks used to be very bad herein Clearfield Co. Not as much now. I've washed and dried clothes are they were still alive and well in the seams. NASTY CREATURES.

Woah! thats not good, if she gets on the right meds she should be fine... Im so suprised I've never had it, so many people I know have gotten it, even my old dog had it. Its real bad in North East MD area... That park would have much better deer huntin if you were alowed to hunt near the camp grounds[:@]

They freak me out. Had one crawling on my neck while driving the car, damn near wrecked the car. Hung up the deer, stripped down right in the basement, put all clothes in the washer and had my wife check me from head to toes. Not taking any chances.

Sorry to hear about that, hopefully you both get better. Now I am a little curious as to why you started this saying she may have it but after that all you seem to car about is how you hope you don't get it, etc.... Maybe I just think differently but I personally would be more worried about my g/f than myself. Especiall in this case.

RE: g/f has lime

geterdun, I hunt Elk Neck as well. More specifically Carter, the same place you and your gf walked through. Those things are the size of the lead tip on a sharpened pencil. The main trail is infested with them as well as the grassy areas in Carter. One day last year, my roommate and I went scouting there. Afterwards, we were both infested with literally hundreds of these things on each of us. However, we did not notice them until the day after when My roommate felt something biting his ankle and as he looked more thoroughly and noticed hundreds of these things embedded in his skin. I also looked more closely and found hundreds on me as well. I do believe they are chiggers, but they look very similar to ticks- they are relatives of each other. this is a chigger:

Whatever you two had, good luck with that. Next time you get them, take duct tape and stick it to your skin and peel it off. This seems to be the most effectiveway to remove them. Showering does not take them all off.
Good luck. The whole part of North east, Md seems to be infested with chiggers and ticks. I go through atleast 2 rolls of duct tape a season on chiggers alone hunting Carter, Rogues, and Turkey Point. BTW, Carter is doing horrible. The first 4 weeks of the season only 3 deer were takin. I am not sure what is up to now, but I know it is producing much even with muzzleloader season.

I had a statistics class a few years back. What I got from it was that tests the first time around are only about 10% effective no matter what the doctor says. Most Dr. say they are 80% sure; that is BS according to some statistics rule. I forget which one. This may be because I didn't get most concepts. However "D"s get degrees.

The second positive test is the one that really matters.

Deer ticks dont hold on. once they make thir bite the usually fall off. My cousin has lymes, he got it bad, it spread into his liver and he almost died. The Marshfield Clinic called in a specialists from The Twin Cities to evaluate him. He said it was one of the worst cases he has ever seen. Have you noticed any marks on your body. Most of the time youll get a ring around where the infected deer bit you. Like the one in this picture.

they are chiggers at elkneck.. i have never seen a deer tick there. she probably got it somewhere else. i was tested also because i get bit in pa a lot by deer ticks... test was neg.. over the last 2 years i have had thousands of chiggers on me they dont carry anything... i admit they do look like ticks but u learn the difference...honestly it aint worth huntin there with the low amounts of deer anyway. Also I thought it takes years for lyme to show up not 2-3 months...

RE: g/f has lime

Lymes sucks but it isn't that bad with the medicine they have now. I'm from NJ and it seems like half the population (including myself) has it. She'll be feeling better within a week but you're correct in there's no cure. What will happen is you'll be fine for a year or more and then just get really sick, like the flu, and have to go back to the doctor and get some medicine. In a couple of days you'll be back on your feet again. You do get more achy at times though and you know when you're about to get sick again because you get real tired and lazy. I, like most people, caught it within the first year and there's nothing really to worry about. I think if you let it go for longer than that though is when you get into the more serious cases. Good luck
