Which pest is the most unbearable?

Say that you've been blessed with god-like powers, and you could eliminate one of the following four pests from the deer woods... Which one would you zap?

RE: Which pest is the worst?

Thats a really tough choice. On one hand I have the everyday squirrels who get me all excited thinking they are a deer. Numero dos, I have the 500 sider webs I run into during bow season while trying to get into my stand. Don't have and chipmunks in big ole Texas. We do have the annoying blue jays that scream and holler ever five minutes.

All in all, I have to go with bugs[:@]

I appear to be a magnet for chiggers, ticks, and skeeters, they'd be the first to go.

We get flocks of starlings here and they will just sit in your tree and scream constantly. Some times makes you want to bring a 12 gauge as well just to shoot at those little bastards.

RE: Which pest is the worst?

Mosquitos come to mind first. But around the areas I'm hunting, the crow population has exploded and I have come to really hate the racket they make every morning. I have NEVER seen a deer in the area when they congregate overhead and begin their raucous screaming. Kill 'em all I say!

I joke about the squirrels being Gods curse on bowhunters.....but I'd hate to know how many hours on stand I've passed watching them go about their business. They're annoying in that they ALWAYS make me look;).

I'd probably live to regret giving them (squirrels)a pass.....but I guess I'd go with the bugs.

Obviously there are no Armadillos up in your neck of the woods ;). But besides that, being a single guy, I'm voting for insects.

RE: Which pest is the most unbearable?

Birds and squirrel dont bother me at all. Ive had two occasions where birds have saved the day. This years buck was distracted by a bird who flew up to him and landed right next to his nose. Gave me a chance to let off my draw. Same thing happened three years ago. Was in a stare down with a nice little 8 point, when a wood pecker started hammering the tree behind him. He looked back at the woodpecker, giving me the chance to draw and release the arrow.

RE: Which pest is the most unbearable?

oh man...tough call. chipmunks and squirrels are both bad. depends which ones are more active that day.

to me, the squirrels are worse...but only when they are on the ground. they sound much more like a deer to me than chipmunks.

but i cant stand chipmunks chirpping alllll day. cant even get a a nap sometimes ;)

really depends what there are more of and whats most active that day lol..

birds really dont bother me. ya, when a flock of bluejays fly in, they can be pretty annoying..but they are generally short lived..where as the chipmunks and squirrels seem to go strong ALL day

High temps don't bother me in the early season, its the dang mosquitos that keeps me in the house on hot days.

RE: Which pest is the most unbearable?

I went squirrels. First, yes, they sound like deer. But here's what happens to me almost like clockwork. Squirrel, first seen at about 50 yards out, begins to work his way toward me. Despite the fact that there's a million other directions it could go, it continues to make bee-line for me. Then, having come in to about 5-feet, it finally notices me. Squirrel then tears away to the nearest tree, which of course isn't very far. Squirrel then barks for the next 20-min without pause. I can't hear myself think.

It's happened, without fail, the last 3 times I've been out...annoying as crap.

Bugs, with the main culprit being mosquitos. The only good thing is they cant stand the cold.

Well i dont hve a wife because im 13 years old (LOL) but i do have a annoying mother that is always complaining about things.

But sense annoying mom's arn't on the list ill go with squrrels and chipmunks.

Most annoying little pests ever.

I even got attacked by 2 of them.

I was sittin in my stand and i was watchin this squirrel come up the tree over and i saw that the tree had some branches that were touching my tree and the squirrel got on my tree and it came right to me and started sniffing my bow out (it was hanging on a cut off branch) So i tried to shoo it away and finaly it left.

And another time i was just listening and looking around a little and i hear this noise just right above me (a few inches above me head) i looked up and this little squirrel was staring right at me and then it jumped and i thought it was jumping at me to attack me but it just jumped right above me onto the other branch.

annoying little things.

in Alaska it has to be bugs..(since brown bears are not on the list[8D];))..no-seeums; white socks and mosquitoes.
but my guess is they are so thick on the tundra so they can be eaten by ducks , geese, other birdsand fish since there are so many where waterfowl breed.

I'll second that Hogs do suck, but atleast they are quite good to eat :)

I would have to go with Mosquitos as the most annoying thing, especially down here in the south.

Squirrels are ammusing to me. They keep the woods interesting during the down time. And they keep you alert. I vote to abolish 4 wheelers and dirt bikes in the woods during bow season.

Haha, nice one!

I would have to say bugs too. Squirrels can sometimes be fun to watch but those darn skeeters are relentless.

RE: Which pest is the worst?

I had no less than 20 chipmunks running around me all weekend. At first I kind of liked watching them, but by like the 20th straight hour of having to listen to them I wanted them all dead.

On the other hand squirrels don't normally bother me, but... This weekend I notice that I have a couple squirrel hunters on a B line for me, and I have a squirrel on the branch next to me barking away. I looked at the squirrel and said if you don't shut up your going to get us both killed. I ended up hitting the grunt tube at them and coughing and I think they got the picture and went the other way.
