I went out this morning and had a nice buck come to my stand. I first caught sight of him and saw rack which looked to be decent but I wasn't quite sure if it was what I was looking for yet or not. Then I lost sight of him behind some brush for a few seconds. Next time I see him he's in a shooting lane at 30 yards. I say to myself nah he's not what I'm looking for. Then his rack disappears again for awhile as he works his way around in front of me. Next time I get a clear view of him he's 25 yards and I half second guess my original assesment of him being a "shooter" or not. But I convince myself I was right the first time.I'm up and ready with my release on trying to get another look at him. Finally as he turns straight away from me with his rear towards me I get a really good look at the rack as he walks away from me at 40...50..60.. yards etc...[:-]. Then I ask myself what in the name of God are you thinking? *&$#&!@&*($#&^* [:@]

This guy wasn't evena doubt about being a shooter (for my standards). I had him dead to rights twice and had a brain fart for some reason. I was so pissed I couldnt' see straight the rest of the morning. Not sure what happened. Like I said I just lost my hunting brain for a minute. It's usually crystal clear when I see a buck I want to shoot. It just jumps out at you and there is no second guessing. Not sure what the deal with this one was.

I've heard of ground shrinkage before. When you shoot a buck you thought was bigger than it was. Ever hear of it the opposite way? Letting one walk that you thought was smaller?

Awesome story buddy, enjoyed that one. Stop being so picky and shoot the darn thing.

The rear view always, always makes them bigger than they are....if you had doubts, you did the right thing but that doesn't mean you haven't lost your brain. [8D]

That rear view, all ways looks big cause it lets your brain paint the main beams longer and all the tines are as tall as the first one.

I agree with the rear view looking bigger. I don't know though. He also gave me a little left view, a little right view, turned his head broadside at one point. All views had me picturing him on my wall [8D][&:]as he was walking away. That's allright. If I shot him I wouldn't be in the woods much for the rut.
