RE: Question on Scrapes

In my opinion, some are made and not visited again....Some are visited and used fairly often...It can be hit and miss depending on several variables....

I have killed bucks off scrapes, but during the rut I prefer to hunt and stay close to the does...The scrape is his "calling card", the does come by and tinkle in it, when they are "in", this lets the buck know they are ready....But...

If you are staying close to the does, there are scrapes in the area...Look at it this way, the buck makes a scrape to find a doe...So stay with the real thing and he will show up...Following her....

Now...If you are in a oak flat, where does should feed through AND there is a scrape there...That's a good thing, set up 75 yards or so down wind of the scrape as the buck does not have to come put his nose in the scrape to tell if a doe has freshend it, he can scent check from further away and if you are sitting right over the scrape, he is going to smell you and be gone..

Good Luck...

RE: Question on Scrapes

Once the rut is in full swing i've seen it where they don't even check these scrapes a whole lot, there to busy chasing around everything!
