Which climbing stand is the best?
Which one do you think is the best and why?
|
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
I couldn't say objectively, the only 2 I've ever owned are Summit and API.....Summit wins out of those 2, that's for sure. Summit's are incredibly comfortable, and super stable. Mine is also very quiet.

RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
lone wolf, i got the hand climber and it is super quiet and packs flat. I think i might get the sit and climb seat because it sucks to sit on the hand climber for extended periods.

RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
I've been hunting with my Equalizer for about 5 mos. Leveling feature really works and thing is rock solid on a tree. Highly recommend. ;)

RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
My Summit Razor SS is the most comfortable stand I've ever had.
|
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
I don't know what one is the best but, I really like this one. The seat is attached to the base, just like a lock on. I like that feature. It is solid when attached to a tree. RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
I have had many different brands over the years and so far my Lone Wolf Sit and Climb has been the best for me. Light, quite, easy to climb with, and stable. Not the most comfortable, but I stand about 50% of the time and it is just fine for that. Most comfortable for sitting I have is the Doc's Recliner followed by the Summit Golith.
|
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
I had a Summit, sold it. I didn't like way it packed or climbed plus how you sit down in the bar, that put the bar too high and was in the way if the deer were close to the stand. I bought the Ol'man original and then another Grand. I feel it's the best stand on the market. As comfortable if not more so, packs easier than the Summit did and climbs nice, quiet and just perfect in my opinion.

RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
LoneWolf - Light, portable, collapsable
If your looking for comfort, id go with the summit... |
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
I sold my Summit Viper after purchasing andusing my Equalizer 2 yrs ago.
Have not bought another climber since |
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
I like lone wolf
|
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
Summit Bushmaster.
lightweight , quiet, really comfortable. |
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
I think I may start my quest in searching for a good climber. Sound like Summit. Lone wolf, and equalizer are the top brands to start with.
Is there anything else I should look at? Oh this will be for bow hunting and some muzzle loader hunting. |
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
ORIGINAL: crazedbowhunter lone wolf, i got the hand climber and it is super quiet and packs flat. |
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
I like my summit but have used all and any would be a great stand
|
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
I never understood why "packing flat" was important in a climbing stand.
I own a Summit Viper and a Summit Bullet backpacker (that happens to pack flat). I like them because they're comfortable....and they allow me to satay on stand longer than I would in something less cozy. The Viper series (and I assume ALL Summit climbers) seats are adjustable. Though I keep mine adjusted hanging lower.....the premise is.....when bowhunting....NOT to let them hang so low in the rail. That would make this statement a moot point. plus how you sit down in the bar, that put the bar too high and was in the way if the deer were close to the stand. I sit most all the time while deer hunting....and to my knowledge....I've yet to be busted trying to get to a standing position to shoot. |
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
I had the Summit and liked it very much. Saw the Equalizer at the Harrisburg Outdoor Showlast year and toyed around with the idear of buying it but it was expensive. I decide to take the plunge this summerand after a years use I am totally satisfied. It does everything.

RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
I have a LW sit and climb, and love it. I wouldn'tuse any other stand.;)
|
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
This equalizer has me thinking hard toward it. I have herd of many selling there old stands and buying one of these.
The only think I see that concerns me about is the seat height. I would like it to recline a little more but I am sure I can modify it if I need to. And the tree size could be an issue but I am sure that will work it self out. |
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
Actually the tree size for an Equalizer is not much of an issue. I had one and like a dummy I sold it. Didn't pack quite as well as a Lone Wolf, but the Equalizer is the 2nd quietest climbing stand I ever used and the leveling feature did indeed work as advertised......great feature.
The Loggy Bayou Stalker in the pic is a very comfy and solid stand as well but the climbing aid sucks. Its still noisey and somewhat hard to use. If they could do something to make the climbing aid easier to use and quiet, it would be a better climber. I still vote Lone Wolf as my favorite climbing stand because though its not quite as comfy as a Summit or a couple of others, the overall construction, weight, packing, quietness, and quality is just too good IMO. The one big thing they could change is the back bar or brace. It needs to be angled or curved instead of being straight making it much easier to start up a tree when you angle it to compensate for the tree getting narrower toward the top. At the botton of a tree the brace doesn't allow you to enough of an angle to start climbing. Are you listening LW?;) |
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
Thanks for the information. I was going to eventually ask how the Equalizer packed. What was awkward about it? And how is the LW better (what model is that again?)
|
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
i like my summit razor ss very comfortable and you can swing the bar out of the way if you want
|
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
I've never used an equalizer tree stand but I've used the lone wolf hand climber. The lone wolf is quiet and packs flat. It's a great stand.
The summit I have is the open shot hand climber. It's light (14lbs) and much less expensive than the lone wolf. So, when it comes to climbers, I'll buy the summit. Lone wolf is where it's at for climbing sticks and hang ons tho'. You can get up into a tree with a set of Lone wolf sticks and a stand almost as fast as you can climb with a climber... and you don't have to find a climber friendly tree. |
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
summit 100% for me... I stand by them....I own like 5 of them now lol.....
|
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
I say Summit. I have had a lot of climber stands and summit are the most comfortable and stable in the tree
|
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
I used several types of fixed stands over the years until 5 years ago when I purchased an API climber. I seldom use a fixed stand now.
The API Shooting Star has serves me well. It is much more comfortable than my fixed stands, quite to put up and take down and I can hang and remove it from my peferred tree without the use of a light. |
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
I like my summit open shot! Great stand and very stable!
|
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
Summit gets my vote, bought one this season based upon the advise of this board. Comfortable enough to sit in as long as you want without wiggling around and extremely quiet. It'll be going with me this weekend to whack some slick heads.
|
RE: Which climbing stand is the best?
i've had a summit which was acceptable until i bought a lone wolf sit n climb this year which i would not replace for anything...its a bit pricey but to me its worth the money
