Ever hear a buck grunting?
 

Hey guys, I'min need of someadvice. I was out in a stand tonight and heard a buck grunting somewhere down the hill from me. I waited awhile, then grunted back. Then heeventually did it again. I grunted a few minutes later, than nothing. Rattled my antlers awhile later and still nothing.

What do you guys think a person should do when this happens?

first question for you is are you on public land?? or land where any other hunters could possibly be on?

That's about all you can do. Sometimes they come when you grunt, sometimes they don't. You couldthrow a doe bleat in there as well

No other hunters around for sure. It's only 10 acres of pines on our family farm.

One day I heard grunting all morning. I grunted back, rattled antlers, doe bleats, and even begged it to come in...nothing. So I decide I'm gonna go check this out. I get outta the tree, and real slow start stalking to where I hear it. 45 minutes later I'm getting close, I hear it louder. I get out the binocs and start glassing the area. There it was...the fattest man I've ever seen outside of wal-mart sitting there breaking wind.

You did it right except for maybe the rattling? Just the luck of the draw sometimes....or all the time.

Yup, I did last season. A young buck came into the Can, and he was doing short tending grunts..;)

Not gonna say it will work, but you might even try a doe bleat. I had a mature doe give a communication bleat to its youngun last evening in the stand.

I guess if it happens again, I'll try the doe bleat. I'm kind of wondering if the rattling was too much. I got busted by a big boy on Mon. night that I brought by rattling. If he was the deer I heard (which very well could be in such a small area), I wonder if the rattling spooked him?
