Field Scoring Bucks

A buddy called and is cancelling a trip he's partially paid for to bowhunt on a private ranch in TX where they have score minimums on what kind of bucks you can shoot. This isn't something I'm normally concerned with but since I'm filling in for himI need a crash course on field scoring. The fines are steep for shooting something less than 120 or 125 inches. I remember a guy telling me one time about a quick formula for scoring bucks in the field, something about the length of the G2's and the spread I think. Anybody know what I'm talking about or have anotherway of doing it?

Ears are a good measuring tool. If the rack is out to the ears and the tines are as long as the ears, you are at about 120, unless it is a donkey deer with freak ears, which would make it bigger, so you're good either way. Any one else have a better way?

I have always went by just adding up tine length. IMO it takes 20 inches of tine length on a ten point to gross 120. On an eight point it should take around 25 inches. By this, i mean g1, g2, g3 for eight point....g1,g2,g3,g4 for ten point.

I'm sure there are better ways but this way seems to be pretty quick when it comes to a border line deer that I need to make up my mind. Usually takes about 10 seconds to add up the tines.

I'dsay the best way is if you think it's close don't shoot.Sitting there adding everything up will cost you shot opportunities.
