Made new purchase in prep.....
Okay, I have a General and Marquis coming. Now to add accessories.:D
I made the call to Viper Archery Products moments ago. You've seen me do a review on the sight. http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=1577393&mpage=1 That sight configuration was all .019 pins with green, yellow, red and green. I order another one of this exact same sight, now I'll have two, well 3 with the one I ordered for the Trykon I gave/traded to my buddy Kurt. The new sight configuration will be two .019 pins in green and yellow followed by two .010 pins in red and green. I also added a 4X lens to the sight just because, well call me a gadget guy. I already own a 2X clearifing lens for my Super Peep. I also ordered extra fibers for both the .019 and .010 pins. One never knows and with upcoming trips to IL and WY I want to be prepared. Now what for rests, stabilizers etc.... Here's what I'm thinking and I'm asking for input. I love my Trophy Taker Prongorn Original that I have on my Allegiance. I'm thinking another TT Pronghorn for the new ones as well as possibly the Limb Driver. Whatcha's thoughts on any of this thinking? Now, I have a Fuse Axium 10" stablizer on my Allegaince. I also have a 12" Super Stix which I've always loved but I'm thining I like the look of the 11.5" Doinker, what's anyone thoughts on this? Peeps, there is always the standby, Tru Peep but, I'm thinking maybe the G5...what's thoughts on this? Am I forgetting anything? |
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
If it is between the TT and a Limb Driver, thereis no choice to be made, Limb Driver all the way. That rest is so awesome. Couple guys I target shoot with have them, and one of my hunting friends does too, and they all give it rave reviews. I shot one for a little bit but I had just bought a new a new QAD, and was more or less playing with the limb driver when the shop got one in. Very accurate and easy to tune. The Whammy is pretty sweet too, but i think the Limb Driver is a better option.

Quivers

RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
I'd seriously look at Bowtech's own wild thing line of stabilizers (Which I will put on the general WHEN i get one). I've loved my G5 peep since installing it....and the QAD ultra rest has no downfalls I know of.
I'm like you....if I thought there was something better out there....I'd have it on my bow (and I include my bow in that statement). Good luck. Nice problem to have (bows that need accessorizing);) |
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
AH, FOP, thank you so much but a guy can only use so many quivers. I currently have the Fuse Katana on my Allegiance. I figure that can migrate easily enough from one bow to another depending on which I hunt with and when. I should however pick up a second one. I'm up in the air there, any suggestions?
|
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
I'm really unfamiliar with the limb driver type rests but will they work with the center pivot design??
I'm gonna need a rest to since Muzzy doesn't make one for these bows (yet) so I need you guys to run the early tests! |
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
Fuse quivers are the best out there I think. Their attachment system is so secure/stable. Bowtech makes a garbage quiver, I bought one because it matched camo-wise, but my next will be a Fuse. My wife has one on her Vectrix and it pisses me off everytime she hooks and detaches it because the system is so great. For a second quiver, I think Fuse should get the call!

RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
With regards to the G5 peep. Anyone else have glare issues? I had to take a black marker to the inside of it since whenever the sun got in there I could not see a thing. Did not know if anyone else had that problem.
BTW, what do you guys do with all your old bows? Must be hard to get rid of huh?;) I love the look of that new General, how do you feel it compares with the Patriot? (I love my Patriot) |
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
I trade my old ones in on new ones, usually my "old" one is about 8-10 months old.
|
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
Rob, I really love my limbdriver rest. The concept is genius and a 5 year old could set it up. It works flawlessly. I'm not sure if they have a model that will work on the center pivot design of the general, but you should def. give it a shot on your marquis.

RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
I have shot a G5 peep with no problems noticed (The guys at my shop said some of the early ones were bending into oval shapes from the pressure but I've never seen it) Alpine has a nice new quiver called the bear claw which is nearly silent on and off the bow........they also make a sweet teflon cable slide called the Mach 5 in very cool camo........oh crap, you don't need a cable slide anymore (nevermind). The Vortex quivers look sweet. I doubt either of those bows will need much of a stabilizer so find one you like in matching camo so at least it will look great. I have the Viper sight as well and it is very nice........I don't shoot any better with it then the $40 Copper John Dead Nuts Hunter I have on my other bow but it sure looks pretty :)

RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
Rob:
I have an 11.5" carbon elite doinker with the supression mount (the good one) that I'd be willing to loan you long term to try out. I can give it to you when we meet up for lunch next weekend. If you like it, great and you can buy one eventually. If not, then mail it back to me whenever. I don't want to sell it outright quite yet, but honestly don't see myself shooting hunter class ever again and that's the only reason I bought it. It's in perfect condition........ Just my opinion, but if you must have a drop away on that bow, I'd look at the QAD ultra LD, or the Limb Driver. A trophy taker would be on the bottom of the list of ones too look at in my personal opinion. Let me know if you want to give that doinker a shot. |
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
Ah yes, the sight with the staggered pins.[8D];)
I thought Muzzy was coming out with an updated version of the MZE for roller cable setups. If this was the case, would you consider it? I love my MZE on my tribby. Just askin'. |
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
Yooper, since I already own the TT Pronghorn, I'm up for trying a new rest. Don't get me wrong, I really am impressed with the TT Pronghorn and it's performed flawlessly.
Matt / PA has/had the Limb Driver on his Guardian, I was impressed with it when I shot it so that's not out of the question. I know he's a fan of them so, that says alot. GMMAT, Good suggestions. I like the look of the Wild Thing on Bowtechs website. The Doinker is also on there so I don't know. I love my Super Stix so that may go on one, The Axium is great but I don't like that I cannot sit my bow down on it cause it bends. You can see that in my doe picture. Great stabilizer but I like resting my bow in the stabilizer, especially in a ground blind. Your QAD is also one I've considered, still am. GR8, yes they will work on the center pivot bows. Matt had one on his Guardian. If Matt likes it, that speaks volumes for me and I shot his and fell in love with both the Guardian and the Limb Driver, together they were whisper quiet. Yooper, I do love my Katana quiver. Do I really need a second one? HHmmm dandbuck, Is that an issue? I know GMMAT loves his and I installed one for a friend on his Mathews. I'll have to ask these guys as well. I don't see having to modify that but I did notice some glare of it in my backyard. HHmmm Jeff, Wag's what do you think? I haven't shot the Patriot, I do have the Allegiance and find it an amazing bow. The Guardian blew my mind..it's shockingly amazing. The General must be just as shocking amazing. I can only imagine and look forward to shooting Matt's next weekend. goherd1111, Matt had the Limb Driver on his Guardian so I have to assume that it's fine for the General as well. Matt, Greg? If it's fine, I think you guys have me talked into one. I was thinking about it and the reviews are all positive. Anyone ever hear of a flaw? What about the string in the woods and snags? atlasman, good to see you posting, how's the season. Thanks for the reference on the G5 peep. I like the concept and look but I have a Super Peep on my Allegiance, yeah it's heavy but I can throw on my Tox and Boss scope and screw in a clearifing lens in my peep. I might use it on my next primary bow cause I have the Zeiss Lens coming with my new Viper sight. On the other bow maybe I'll try the G5. Thanks for the recs on quivers and lol cable slides...;) And good point on stabilizers, might not need one...I do like the looks of them and to be honest, I shoot a heavy bow better than a light one and I shoot higher poundage better than lower poundage. I guess I need some beef out there. :D Rick James, I'll give it a try. I do have the Super Stix and a 12" Hoyt stabilizer but the Hoyt is HEAVY....If the need is not there on the General, I still like one for support, standing and looks. ;) Lunch is definately on and it should be me, GMMAT, tkycaller, Q2INWHITETAILS, Matt and Jeff and I's wives, you and Dan (APAJaws). Where we meeting? Well, we'll talk. Bring the doinker...LOL that sounds funny. So another vote for the Limb Driver. ducsauce, I love the Viper Predator Pro-MT...awesome. Yes, I'd consider the Muzzy, I've heard Greg review it enough times but it's looking like the Limb Driver is really getting the votes. |
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
Yeah, I suppose, if you have a detachable quiver, i don't guess you really NEED one...but when has need factored in to any decision!?! Any way you get just the bracket I wonder?
|
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
YooperM, that's a great point. I should just order the bracket....great thinking.

I do what I can to help those less gifted.

RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
Rob, as far as the rest goes, I really like the looks of the new Simms drop-away rest, it appears to be built well and it seems as though it would be one of the quieter drop aways. I havn't had any experience with it, but I have been looking at it recently and it seems pretty nice, I just question how well it would work with a bow that has such little limb movement. As far as the stabilizers go, check out the SAP Feather Light Hunting Stabilizers, they have alot of the same features as the Doinkers but cost a little less.
|
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
BTW, what do you guys do with all your old bows? Hah, maybenext year about this time I can pick up a "used, outdated" General. |
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
about to send you a PM... ;)
|
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
Another vote for the limb driver. Very easy to set up and all around great rest. I have never had a problem with te string getting snagged on brush. If it did happen to get snagged, the d loop material is pretty tough and I don't see how it would affect the rest in any negative way.
|
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
Buck Magnet, thanks..another option. I did look at them, they look good.
LebeauHunter, lol Thanks Greg. Mo Bowhnter, another vote for Limb Driver...cool. I was kinda wanting to hear from Matt too. I'm thinking that route. I guess I better get it ordered huh? |
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
I would go with a G5 Meta peep, and a fuse axium
oh...and can't forget...whisker buiscuit. |
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
odkp, I like the G5 and the Axium but one thing that will NEVER be on my bows is the wb.[8D]
|
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
I'm a big LimbDriver fan, a BIG one. They are even better on a Bowtech. So there's my rest vote.
You have the sight, I really like those, but I like the Spott Hogg's ALOT right now. I would almost try one of those, and a Viper. I like the WildThing stabilizer by Bowtech, or the Fuse, and the one I have on my bow is the Limbsaver Elite Hunter Modular, I like it alot. |
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
Rob,
My vote is for the limbdriver and a wildthing stabilizer. As for a quiver...I have been looking at the Alpine softloc...heard great things about it. Good Luck! |

RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
I like the Fuse line too. The quivers are solid and noise free and the stabilizers work well. I switched from the wildthing to the Fuse on my Guardian. Rests?? I don't know there's alot of good ones. G5 peep I like alot.
|
RE: Made new purchase in prep.....
Well Rob, I think you already know that you can't go wrong with the Viper sights. I'm thinking about tryng the Quickset on my new '08 ??????. AS for the rest, I suggest you look at the NAP Smart Rest. It's very similar to the Trophy Taker.
Can't help you on the stabilizer or quiver because I don't use either. :D |
