RE: CHECKMATE!

You would have to look long and hard to find a more complete package than Troy! Husband, father, teacher.man of faith, hunter! An outstanding person! Something to aspire to for any one of us.
You just have got to feel good for any success that comes his way!
Yes Fran and Ryan it is rifle season out there,is that sick or what! In three weeks I will be out in country that is about 2 hours away from Troy hunting my a-- off with a rifle hoping to see a buck of that caliber, and Troy puts them on the ground practically every year in that big country with archery equipment.Simply Remarkable!

RE: CHECKMATE!

Troy,

Not only is he a brute, but what a beautiful rack! It is ideal, best in show. It's what you see on
the bags of food plot seed and mineral supplements. :D

We all know you put in some serious effort - year round scouting, putting in the hours on the stand,
passing "scrub bucks" a lot of us would take, fighting off trespassers, and made a fairly difficult shot
look easy. You also took him in his bedroom, his comfort zone, not with his head to the ground chasing a doe.

Job well done! Team 43 is on the board.

BTW, is that Stretch?

RE: CHECKMATE!

Troy, with much respect congrats on a magnificent buck. As the others have said your hard work is an example of wait it takes to consistently take trophy whitetails and the fact that you do it with a bow is a testament to your woodsmanship and skills as bowhunter. To succeed as you did despite the adversity you have dealt with makes it that you much more remarkable.

When I read your posts it is with the intent of seeing what more I can do to be more successful. I'm truly happy for you and can't wait to hear the details of story and the tale of the tape.

Congrats again, it's good to see hard work pay off.

Dang guys... I mean this ...you are all waytoo kind.. Thanks so much for all the very nice words...

As for the tail of the tape, he grossed 144 4/8 ...Ihave the full breakdown at home (sorry left thescore sheet from last night...on my desk this morning)I'll get it toRob for the team contest this evening. I couldnt be happier! I got his sheds out and they almost match Identical.. I got some photos of that too..he really didnt gain much size in TWO years..I did think while watching him this summer that he would make 150..but after taping him his g-1s are weak (4 inchers..and so are his g-4's...one inchers...He's extremely balanced. I got to bed at 2 am got back up at 5 this morning... just couldnt sleep, from the excitement.

He's an awesome buck, old buck and more importantly taught me a lot about hunting mature bucks bedding areas these past two years...

I will share a lot more in my journal entry to come..

Thanks guys thanks so much.. for all the help and kind kind words..

Shoulder mount.. Hes got a couple friends to hang out with for the rest of my time on earth..Hopefully when I am dead and gone my boys will have my bucks and the memories to share..with future Pottengers..

I do want to do something different this year with this mount.. This deer taught me a lot the past couple years.. I am better whitetail because of him, the good Lord and you guys... keeping me in check.. thanks..

Duc..

I build a lot of them.. hunting public grounds I make them very inconspicuious but there are a few important factors thatI have learned from mistakes...to incorperate into all of them.. In other words I'd bet 99% of the guys around herewould walk by my blinds and not see them..but once I tuck into them they work well.. I use native habitat and always have a"wall" so to speak on both sides to shield a bucks view of me, while I can see him through it...this allows me to draw early before he gets out in front of me or inthe open.. when he can see me..its too late..

I'd be glad to do a little pictorial..I shoot some photos of a few of mine if you'd like..

Troy, I'd be interested in seeing your blind technique as well. I got access to a new property this year that is almost all thick nasty hedgerows and very hard to get stand into. I know I could effectively hunt in with ground blinds, and could use any pointers you might have.

Troy
1st off ,congrats on a very symetrical buck, I rough scored him at 143 2/8's by the size of your width of your hand on his beam at 4inches across. He'll look great beside the other 2 great bucks that adorn your living room walls. Now Dee has her view on what she needs to surpass your buck.Think she can do it?? What other buck have you hidden ? Hope she's not as competative as you are,but then again she probably is from her sporting background.Hat's off to you my friend,God shurly has blessed you with the gift of hunting great bucks. We'll have to get togetherin the future againfor another hunt. Your freind in Christ ,Rocky

Guys mine are not elaborate..instead I look more for the right break in a brush pocket or thicket of saplings.. K.I.S.S. principle I guess. Yeah I'll get in a couple of mine this weekend I have a camera to check and another buck to hunt, I'll try shooting some different angles of photos from an approaching bucks perspective..wind direction I use the blinds..etc..

Hey Shed.....

I have a plan to take one from the ground, next year, with my longbow. Add me to the list of those interested in your ground blind setup. If it's REALLY simple.....I guess a really simple description will suffice! If you get up near one, though....I'd love to (and I don't think I'm alone) see a photo or two.
