Well...I Choked
Not going to bore you with the details, but I missed on my first deer (ever) this evening. I'm bummed. It was a 40 yard shot, a distance at which I'm more than comfortable (at least when practicing). Looking back on it, I just choked. Got too excited, didn't settle the pin, and looked away from the bow to tried and watch the arrow. Definitely not the routine I practice.
Anyhow, I'm thankful it was a clean miss. She only hopped about twenty yards away, then blew for about 5 min. before trotting off. No sign of any injury. I guess this was a good lesson and I'll be better for the experience. Just wanted to vent a little. Thanks. |
RE: Well...I Choked
do not feel bad i missed my first two i triped my release early and it went right over

RE: Well...I Choked
Won't be the last.;) Great experience tho right? Missing is easy to do, there's a lot of room around those things.:) Fear not, embrace it, remember it the next time your ready to draw, breath, relax and get r done!.:D

Thanks for the responses. I know misses are part of the deal, but was really hoping to connect on that first one. |
RE: Well...I Choked
there will be plenty more oppertunities to get another;)
|
RE: Well...I Choked
Yup, shooting at an animal is a whole different ball game than shooting at targets!!:)

RE: Well...I Choked
Don't be to hard on yourself, it happens to the best of them. I shot a nice buck this year, made a great shot, two days laterI got so tore up on two does I had been watching for a half hour I miss judged the distance and shot way low, a foot below her, missed her clean. We like to call it ( The Yukes) at my hunt club."Yea, old Smitty got the yukes today and choked on an old slick head, HA-HA- HA....LOL" and the jokes start rolling in. Some person's will even go as far as opening up old wounds onhistory misses from years past. Its a dog eat dog world out there.:([:o][:@]

RE: Well...I Choked
Yep thats ok put it behind you and stick the next one ,but if you keep hunting it will happen again.
|
RE: Well...I Choked
40 yards? Thats out there bow hunting!
|
RE: Well...I Choked
What are you shooting 40 yards for ?
A clean miss is good but there is way to much wounding going on, Its not OK it needs to stop . Close is best. Wait for your shot Twenty or under and you will not have this stuff. |

RE: Well...I Choked
There is a big differance in foam deer and real ones. I don't feel that there is any reason for these shots with a bow.
|
RE: Well...I Choked
well, theres a first time for everything
|
RE: Well...I Choked
I agree, as a beginner, you need to wait for a closer shot.
|
RE: Well...I Choked
40yds for the first time. That can be a tough shot, depending on angle etc. But be happy, at least you got a chance to shoot. U will learn grass hopper, that just seeing deer can be enough!
|
RE: Well...I Choked
Don't sweat it buddy, do-do happens! Keep your head in the game (focus), learn from your mistakes, and stay after it! If we killed them all, there wouldn't be any to hunt next year.
Good luck on Saturday! |
RE: Well...I Choked
Sorry to hear about the miss! Another chance will come in time and you'll score when the time is right.
Now I am not going to make too much of a comment about the distance of the shot, but I for one can say that I don't think I've ever taken a shot over 30 yards on a live deer. I guess its just personal preference, but if you practice that shot enough, then like I said its all personal decision. Get out there and take another chance! |
RE: Well...I Choked
Yup what all the guys said above..don't let it eat you up too bad... happens to all of us now or then.. I missed my first buck with a bow.. stuck my arrow right in a log he was straddled...shot low..
Get back in the saddle again and make the next one count.. |
RE: Well...I Choked
Hang in there rookie, it will get better, try to keep your cool and limit those shots till ya get a couple under your belt, it will all fall into place.

RE: Well...I Choked
Dont let it bug ya too bad. I missed twice with my new bow last year. Now this year I have already shot two doe and a buck. Just try to figure out why you did it, and learn from it. Good luck to you!! ;)
