My first year bowhunting, 22 paces from the base of my tree, I saw the spitfire hit the pocket. As it hit I saw a big red spot and as he turned to run I saw a huge red exithole. He headed for the Delaware border only a hundred or so yards away but when he hit the steep banks of the White Creek he turned and walked back towards me and died thirty yards from me. His total run was no more than fifty yards. The next year, same area almost a replay of the year before exept thatI was on the other side of the creek and whenI hithim seven yards with the spitfire he ran twenty or so yards to the creek, turned around and died. The spitfires make BIG holes.

Be careful on quartering away shots. I used them in the past and was very impressed with broadside shots, big entrance and exit holes. Twice on quartering away shots arrow ran down side of deer and then made 90 deg. turn and just barely stuck in. Non fatal on both occasions. Went back to fixeds.
True, most mechanicals do not do well on quartering away. Not that they will always mess up, but are a little more suspect of deflection than a fixed head. Ive killed many animals with them, but still prefer a fixed head.

As with all things in archery, they work well if operated within their limits. If the shot is quartering hard enough to deflect a Spitfire it's likely not a shot that should be taken with a fixed head either. If you think the head is going to fail due to the shot angle wait for a more broadside shot or let 'em walk, it's that simple. I've got nothing but good to say about the Spitfire, it's a great head.

I can't say from personal use, but I do have a really good friend (who has killed numerous deer with bow, and is a great shot) who has lost 3 deer with Spitfires because of them not opening. 2 are on film and you can see the good shots he put on. But if they work for other people, rock on.
