RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
ORIGINAL: NEW61375 :eek:Huh? I think we have all seen similar posts and photos(bear, deer, roadkill buck, etc.). Just telling a story of events in your area. A pic of a dead deer is a pic of a dead deer, how it dieddoesn't make it disrespetful to post, IMO. |
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
That's aweful!
|
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
That is a shame. So what is the total amount of does that have been taken out of the herd this year by arrows, cars, fences, etc? Just curious.
|
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
To my knowledge......22. I'm sure there are more I don't know about. Also....all the ones I "know" of....have been does.
|
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
22, WOW! Things are definitely looking up for you then. Thats impressive.

RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
sad sight to see thats for sure...
id stick with your plan Jeff. when things like that or car accidents etc are high occurances, it means 1 thing...too many of them. honestly, you could kill 30 this year and MAYBE youd see less deer next year. it takes alot of deer being removed to see much results. dont forget most of your does are going to drop 2 more this spring...so take every deer you dont shoot and add 2 more to the herd for next year...if you want to be fair, double not triple the numbers...some does wont breed..some will get hit on the road or stuck in fences etc...either way you get the idea...deer herd can grow alot yearly...removing a couple just isnt going to show much effect... |
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
That kinda sucked, having to see that form your stand jeff... Anyway that's trials of life Men..
even if jeff's shot may have contributed to the outcome...keep wacken and stacken..it seem's you have a deer problem...I think ist a good problem to have.. Im waiting to see you with that BB.. |
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
I received this pic in an email today. The bulls started fighting on opposite sides of a fence and wrapped up 100 yds of fence in the process. What a shame!

When deer get hung up in between the wires it's almost certain death because they panic and always tighten the restriction.
Many years ago during the summer while in college, I worked for the state road and occasionally we would find things like this. One day we found a fawn that had tried to jump the fence and got tangled. He was still alive. Many of the guys said just kill him as he'll never let you help anyway. I was determined to try however and told one of the guys to grab the wire cutters and he could cut while I held the deer (if possible). As soon as we got down to him, it looked even worse (in terms of pain for him) then I could have imagined. He was caught half-way between the hooves and his knee joint on both back legs and the wire had rubbed him bare. There were many yellow jackets and flys getting into his bare meat (kind of like that picture GMMAT) and that had to be excruciating. I climbed the fence (a couple of posts down from him to reduce the vibration), managed to wrap a big flannel shirt around him and hold him. He was struggling hard and it was all I could do to hang on for the second or two it took the guy to cut the wire. As soon as the wire was cut, I let him go and he took off running, although he was running wierd as if shot in the butt (kinda draggin it--I guess I would be too:)). Instantly we noticed that his mom was nearby and must havejoined him in the brushy field he went into. He had disappeared into the field about 50yds from us. Was a good feeling that I'll always remember. Don't know if he made it but he had a chance. |
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
Damn....that's too bad. It is sad what mother nature can do.
|
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
Shoulda used that deer as a decoy and been bleating all morning.
|
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
Definitely a terrible thing. Several years ago while hunting our property I was sitting on a hill glassing a cut alfalfa field. After scanning the fence-line once, I decided to scan one more time. As I looked, I watched a doe attempt to hop the fence. She thrust her rear legs backward and got her hoof caught in some tangle up chicken wire fencing from years ago.
I made it over to her and by that time she was worn out from her struggle. It took about five minutes, but I used my leatherman to cut the old wire away. She took off and bedded down about 75 yards away. |
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
Why everyone is justifying this as "mother nature" is beyond me..........the animal was wounded by a human and caught up and died in a man made fence. How much the two are related no one will ever know but barring a HUGE coincidence I think it's a pretty safe "bet".
Mother nature IS very cruel..........I agree. I just don't see how she fits into this equation. |
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
edit.
post to come later. I have class. |
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
That's why I titled my thread the way I did, Atlas.
|
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
Dang Jeff, thats sucks. I cut a calf (cow)out of a fence once, dug a fawnout of creekafter spooking the coyotesthat had chased it in there...and finally packed a calf elk out of logging trail once... Never have found a dead one in the fence yet. Hope I dont have too.
On the doe issue... Shoot a buck team 43 needs a kickstart! :D |
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
That is a very sad sight and I know that had to be heart breaking. It is amazing, we can go out and kill these animals and be overcome with joy, but when we see something like this, it tears us up. It reminds me of a a yearling doe a few years ago that I shot. She came down a trail while I was rifle hunting and the whole time she was crying/bleating. She got to within afew yards of my stand and fell over. I could see her legs were broke and the bone sticking through the skin. I watched her for awhile as she cried and tried standing up. After a few minutesof her trying to stand up I decided that it was time to do my job, and I dispatched her with a tear in my eye.I guess the silver lining is that you now know of the entry/exit of your shot and the overall outcome of the deer. Very neat story none-the-less.

RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
These stories tear us all up, BM. Thanks for what you did with the doe.
Shed: I'm trying. Believe me. |
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
That's too bad. A horrible way for anything to die.

RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
that is to bad the thing must have suffered a while

RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
Jeff,
At the place where my father and I hunt, I have seen 3 deer in 5 years die this way, even without being wounded, and have heard of quite a few others around here and there. Usually it is the young ones that don't quite make the jump, and come down with one leg between the top two wires. There will usually be a deep hole in the sand where they have pawed the ground out. Sometimes the coyotes find them while they are still alive. We freed one last year, but it had struggled too hard and dislocated his hip hanging there. Once he was free we left him for awhile hoping he would get better, but after a couple hours it was obvious he wouldn't make it so we put him down. I don't like to see it but there is really nothing to be done about it. Mortality by man comes in many different fashions. Many we never think about untill we stumble across them. |
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
That must have been tough to look at especially as slow as it probably was until you were able to get a good look at what exactly the deal was.
It's a cruel world we live in and nothing and no oneis spared it's wrath when it's their "time". I too (like most) have seen my share of the strange and down right brutal ways mother nature and man collide. |
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
That truly is a sad pict but not as sad as the image that I have carried in my mind for over 25 years. Out hunting one day came up on a doe that was "propped" up against a tree. Somebody found her dead and put her against a tree. Her cause of death.........starvation. That broke my heart to see a deer that had starved to death. This pict that was posted here, is now the second worse image in my head. Tough break for you to have to see it first hand. Hang tough and it will get better.
|
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
that picture is pretty sad. At first i thought someone had put the skin and head on a tree stump or somthing and then. wow! what a way to go tho...
|
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
That is pretty sad, you hate to see things like that.
|
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
Where was the deer hit to begin with? Or did I miss that part?
|
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
I really hate to see that kind of thing, but it happens probably more than we care to think.
|
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
Yea where wa the deer hit by your arrow, the wound in the one pic where was it?
|
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
Try a couple zip ties on a few sections of fence, it will give the deer an easy place to cross and also give you a great place to set up!
|
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
Truly sad...
|
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
Where was the deer hit to begin with? Or did I miss that part? curious as to where you hit the doe. |
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
Man that sucks bc you know that she suffered there struggling but doomed for a long time that pisses me off[:@]
|
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
Probably one of the saddest pics I have ever seen Jeff. She was a gorgeous looking doe, very nice early season coat.
|
RE: Terrible Morning.....Man's affect on nature (Graphic)
That's sad to see. I'm sure it tore you up inside GMMAT.
