Bino..question

Yeah I know it's optics but that forum....is too slow.

So what are the bestsmall to midsizebinoculars for say $300 or less.
Waterproof and fog proof.

Also does anyone make a binocular without the right lens being adjustable. That single lens adjustment for vision correction that ALWAYS goes needs adjusted..I have 20/20 and have no need for that..it just irritates me that it always moves!

RE: Bino..question

I think the right eye is adjustable, but the Nikon Monarch is one of the best I've looked through. I think they run around $289.....

I have a set of 10x42 Monarchs and they are pretty sweet.

Another vote for Monarchs. I have the 8x42 Realtree ones. The right eye is adjustable, but is not that easy to move. Might be a solution for you. I paid $252.

well i did something stupid, i just bought a pair of celestron 8x42 outlands off of amazon, i did some research, and the people that had them seemed pretty pleased, so i bought them, they were only 62 bucks, and had a full lifetime nofault warranty, which i thought was a pretty good sign that this might be a good product, well i got them yesterday, the right optic was blurry around the right side of the optics, and i saw 2 images of everything i looked at, so they needed adjusted, so i sent them back this morning... oh well i really didnt lose anything but my time... i guess live and learn... i think im gonna go get the nikons.. or pentax...

I have some low dollar Nikons ($100 range) there is no comparison in their quality. Gander has them in stock for $299.99 if you want to check em out. Or I could let you mess with mine a little bit when I pick those papers up.... When is a good time for you for me to pick those up?

GR8atta2d 10-18-2007 07:39 AM

RE: Bino..question

I really don't need to try'em Scott..I'm just tired of lugging my bigger pair in. I'll just go buy a set.

I got the papers right here...I got a meeting at 11:00-12:00 anytime other than that , is good with me.

I can probably also scan and e-mail them to you..whatever is best.

buckeye 10-18-2007 07:42 AM

RE: Bino..question

Either is OK with me.... Whatever is easier for you.

Gander also has a few other choices in that $ range as well....

Greg/MO got me to look into a pair of Monarch 8X42's (Make sense for the hunting I do). One of my most prized purchases. I love them. I think I paid about $265 for them.

8x42 Nikon Monarchs for me. Nice and bright. Good quality for the $$. That "other site" has a lot of Vortex fans, but it seems that half of them are Vortex dealers. They may be worth alook though.

I got a pair of Cabelas Roof Prism binocs earlier this year. They run around $200 and i really like them...

Definately Nikon Monarch, mine are realtree 8x42, took them mule deer hunting in CO, only problem was keeping them away from my buddies whose "budget" 'nocs didn't work so well. The 10x power would be better in open country, but most of time I'm in close quarters so the 8x work great.

RE: Bino..question

I have used the Leupold wind river cascades in 10 x 42 for a few years now and really like them. I have a full size set by Nikon that is good also. Either manufacturerer puts out some nice glass for the money. I compared the cascades side by side with Zeiss and Swarovskis at 3 to 5 times the price but could not see enough difference to justify the price. Even in low light conditions there just wasnt much difference for me.

Cabelas Alaskan Guide 10x28 are around 200$ and are great quality and are small and lightweight. Have had mine for about 4 years now. I hunt farmland in Michigan's thumb area and can spot a rack easily at quite a distance. The right optic is a diopter which adjusts in increments. Just close your right eye and adjust the left eye with the top focus. Then close the left eye and adjust the diopter for your right eye. Than slightly adjust top focus with both eyes open. I will leave the woods and go back to the truck if I forget them. Cambo1

RE: Bino..question

The vortex Vipers and Razors have a locking diopter so they will not move on you. But they do not fall into that price range.

The Fury's that come out here in a few weeks will have a locking dipoter and are just over $300

I'm in the market as well. I carry a pair of Brunton 10 X 50's to the trees with me. They are big, but they are beautiful, I was looking to downsize some. Matt PA hated my binos, I love them. I think he's carrying Nikkons too.

So, these are the ones to have ey?

I will tell you the Vortex Diamondbacks are every bit as good as those Monarchs, but $90 less.

Now you got me interested. I'm comparing both the Monarch and the Diamondbacks online. Seems like the Vortex's weigh 3.7 ounces more, smidget bulkier, 1.6mm less eye relief BUT have aincreased close focus of 3.7 ft over the Nikonsand 90 foot more FOV. Vortex has a Lifetime warranty where as Nikon has the 25 year limited warranty. Hmmmm....[&:]

Seems like there are a few differences but I don't think it's a $90 difference. I need to do more research but Vortex is sounding nice as well.

Are flip-up objective lens covers an option with the Vortex? I don't think Nikon offers that.

Finch 10-21-2007 08:04 AM

RE: Bino..question

Well, I just keep on finding good things out about the Vortex's. They are also Fully multi-coatedwhich is as good as it gets. Nikon is only multi-coated. Lookin' good...lookin' good.;)

Yes they come with the Bino's ...Front and back lens covers that is and comes with a really cool case.

You will not be disappointed.

Absolutely, these are a great set of binos. I have them in Realtree. Unfortunately for you, they don't come in Enigma so you will have to go with black or green. ;) Assesorize with a pair of Crooked Horn bino system and you're set.
